I was reading Birth Matters by Ina May Gaskin last night and came across the term couvade. It is the practice in certain cultures in which the husband of a woman in labor takes to his bed as though he were bearing the child. Gaskin went on to tell of a few birth stories in which husbands were actually in physical pain while the mother was laboring (seemingly painlessly) and once the child was born, their pain instantly stopped. I found this very interesting. Has this happened to anyone here, or anyone you know?

Never heard of it, but my OH does keep saying if he could take the pain he would! How interesting

I've never heard of it but it sounds bloody marvellous!!

Xxx

lol my OH has had every pregnancy symptom going - me none!

Perhaps that will extend to the birth too!
