I was reading Birth Matters by Ina May Gaskin last night and came across the term couvade. It is the practice in certain cultures in which the husband of a woman in labor takes to his bed as though he were bearing the child. Gaskin went on to tell of a few birth stories in which husbands were actually in physical pain while the mother was laboring (seemingly painlessly) and once the child was born, their pain instantly stopped. I found this very interesting. Has this happened to anyone here, or anyone you know?
