Hi

Has anybody tried both of these and are they different?

I bf the majority and want have introduced a formula feed at night, however Evie is a really windy baby. We tried the aptimal comfort (which didn't help much) so was going to try the Cow and Gate, however when I compared the nutritional info on both they are identical, does this mean they will be exactly the same milk and therefore will be no point in changing?

Thankyou x

The nutritional info is the same with all formulas - that's because there are very strict requirements. There may be a slight difference in its make up, but there won't be much. If you're having trouble still it might be worth trying though.

You haven't said how long you've been using the aptamil comfort for, and that is important. Dylan had issues with wind at both ends, but the painful one for him was his bum. Initially he had a lot more wind, and it smelt pretty bad too. I think sometimes people think it's not working or making things worse because it's quite offensive to begin with. But after 1-2 weeks his system had settled down and was much better.

We've been using it on and off for around 4 weeks, i'll give it another go, thankyou

I belive both cow and gate and aptamil are made by the same company

My baby is bf and ff. When she was very young she probably had half and half but as she has grown hungrier I can't keep up! She now has a little breast milk and a lot more formula. We had her on Cow and Gate but when she got to about 5 weeks and got hungrier she started to become really windy and it was REALLY smelly!! She also wasn't having dirty nappies everyday. I was told by health visitors that all the milks were the same but when I decided to change her, they ended up saying babies do well on Aptamil or Farleys. We chose Aptamil as a friend also recommended it. We haven't looked back. Shes now 11 weeks and has no more smelly wind and lots of dirty nappies, sometimes 2 a day! Although my baby has reflux she is on regular milk. We tried infant gaviscon but she was still sick and it looked like she was starting to get bunged up again so we stopped it.

Evies wind seems to be painful and more difficult to get up/out when she has a formula bottle, was your lo in pain with wind or was it just unpleasant smell? I have some of the regular aptimal cartons in what i bought as a back up before we gave her the comfort milk, i'm wondering if it's worth giving that a go or if it will make her worse as she is bad on the easy digest. She too is on Gaviscon and only has a dirty nappy every 3/4 days but to be honest we don't really have a problem with sickness, gp prescribed it as thought the pain may be acid rather than wind.

No, she didn't seem to be in pain from the wind, it was just smelly. I think her problem was that she wasn't pooing enough, that's why she was smelly. The lady at the clinic suggested trying to feed her more to push things through. I just had a real feeling it was the milk though, and felt uneasy about giving her more and more of what was causing the problem. As soon as I changed the milk she pooed a lot more and stopped being smelly. Everyone said she wasn't constipated as her poos were soft but I knew she should have had dirty nappies each day as she was having a lot more formula than breast milk. As soon as I mentioned she was having a little breast milk health professionals said breast fed babies can go up to a week. I knew she wasn't getting much breast milk at all though.
