is it hard to use a sewing machine?
LOL! my nan had a sewing machine and this was her house so when she passed away everything in it was mine. Theres a sewing machine that i really want to learn to use or is it an impossible task lol!!
what do i need ?

I love sewing! Depends on what you are making. Clothes are hard for me, so I stick to piecing quilts. What did the machine come with? Thread? Bobbins? Presser feet? Basic sewing supplies are different based on if you are quilting or clothes making, if you have any specific questions feel free to pm me :) I'd love to help you in your crafting adventures

Thankyou hun, i'm not sure what's in there waiting till LO has gone to bed before i get it out and check lol

Yes like said above you will just need the basics to start with.

I make and sell dolls and bunting and have made clothing, roman blinds, cushions all with basic supplies.

I'd love to get into quilting when I have more time. Luz do you do patchwork? I found a link for a gorgeous blanket on pinterest and it looks really easy for a beginner!

Nikki- I do! Quilting is pretty big where I'm at and many of the quilt shops have block of the month clubs. They are great in helping me learn new skills and practice. I also buy kits as that is so much easier than trying to pick out all the fabrics myself! Right now I'm working on one called convoy by the buggy barn, it is so cute! If only lo would sleep long enough for me to get anything done on it

Its quite easy once you get to know the sewing machine.

I started sewing a few months back and have made indie loads of clothes and a patchwork quilt out of her baby clothes. I am also going to try and make some money out of an idea i've been working on but cant go into that on here :)

I love patchwork quilts and would love to be able to make them! My neighbour makes them and has offered to teach me loads of time but I just never can find the time. Once my youngest starts pre-school in September I'm going to get a bundle of fabrics and try something like this https://www.imperfecthomemaking.com/2012/01/easy-thrifty-pretty-rag-quilt-tutorial.html
Looks so easy!

I'd love to join a group but sadly round where I live it would be full of OAPs

I'd love to see some of your quilts :)

anyone have an idea of what i can use to practice with?

It's not that hard once you get the hang of it! Just get some cheap fabric and thread to practice with, to learn the settings of the machine, how to thread it, how to use it, then start with a small project like a pillow  I actually find quilts pretty difficult with all the different steps, but things like curtains, baby blankets, and some clothes aren't so hard. Get some patterns (they should tell you on them easy, moderately difficult, most difficult, ect) after you have played around a bit and you should be able to just follow them :flower:

The first thing I made was bunting I think. It's soooo easy! Just type in "tutorial for whatever" into google and you will find loads of good tutorials.

I've never used a clothes pattern. They just baffle me.

When i get home ill have to upload some of the pics i have of them so you can see!!!

It's easy-peasy! I learned most things from Youtube or swapping tips with my best friend, but she has this brilliant book that teaches you basically everything, I've been sewing since I was little and there was tons I didn't know in it.

I *think* it's this one https://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/products/alison+smith/sew+step+by+step/7953755/
I'm gonna get myself a copy next payday :)

It's easy hun. As the other girls have said try something simple like a pillow, if you get stuck do what I do and checkout youtube they have fab tutorials on all kinds of things!!!!!x

So it's only taken me FOREVER, but here are a few of the quilts i've made!

I just started quilting but have been sewing for years! My first quilt is just finished (queen size) and im working on a crib size for my LO now.
I always make something with my sewing machine, i love it when something turns out super good!

to OP if you need any help, links to easy tutorials and such, feel free to PM me :) once you start figuring out the machine you will get hooked!
a super easy starter project is bibs, I made loads of these triangular hankies for my LO, very good for beginners and very quick and USEFUL! :)
