Is there any way you can get rid of credit card charges? i was on holiday and was 3 days late paying my credit card and i got a 12 pound charge for being late and then it went over limit so i got another charge + intrest its stupid  I have got 2 credit cards and they just dont seem to be going down every month with the intrest they put on, im never having a credit card again i guess i learnt the hard way  xx

get in touch with whoever you get the card from, ask them to freeze the account (so there are no more charges) and offer a monthly payment that suits your budget - most credit card companies would prefer this to a default x

i agree with above. But i that fails then you will need to up the amount you pay back each month to cover interest as well

you can set up a direct debit for the minimum payment you would have to pay off the specific month. this avoids the penalty charge, which is actually only for the minimum payment has not been made ;)

go to your credit card company and talk with them through it.

I chose not to have a direct set up because me and my OH have had so many problems with direct debits and it has got us into alot of trouble in the past with going over drawn, charges and then going into even more debt so im trying to stay safe even though this has caused me to miss a payment but it was because we was away, we should of payed it before really :dohh: I hate debt:cry: Im thinking of freezing my card though like the others have said , ive never heard of that before :dohh:

Ladies........ i used to work for lloyds tsb few years ago and the the thing with charges whether dd cards or cc cards is IF you have never been charged for going overdrawn or returned dd,s/o etc THEN you are allowed to have it written of...one per year only though...

So for example...say its the 1st of jan and i have been o/d £4 ....i would get charged £35 etc quid for it being unauthorised....if from last year jan till this year i havent been charged for being o/d or any other charges AT ALL i would get it written of if i go to my bank or call and tell them i havent been charged in the last 12 months....after that the charge gets taken ,and your 12 months starts again....if you had 2 charges then 1 would be written of.

BUT you do need to tell them you havent been chaarged ever before in last 12 months and they will check your last 12 months transactions to check first, and we were told if customers dont knowabout this we shouldnt tell them and just charge them coz its their fault etc...alot of people dont know this and end up just paying....i dont work for them anymore and its ridiculous how being even a few pence overdrawn and you are charged so much for!!!

hope this helps some people...xxx

Was going to suggest approaching the company if it's a one off missed payment, and see if they would wipe the charge as a 'gesture of good will'.

Failing that, if your credit is good, you could apply for another credit card with a 0% balance transfer facility and put the owed amounts (or some of the amount) on to the new card so at least you wont be paying interest and what you pay each month is actually reducing the balance.

If not an option, and the amounts needed to cover the minimum payment is getting too much to pay, approach the c.a.b to write to the company on your behalf making a regular monthly offer, and the interest and account can be frozen. Companys usually respond better to a c.a.b representative....
