I needed this today as I've been in a bit of a tedious part of pregnancy (25+4 today)...

To start, my inlaws are insane. Super nice generally well meaning people (they do occasionally say insensitive things but it's because they're emotionally/socially clueless not malicious).

Anyhow, they'd offered us my husband's crib. Why they kept a crib for 27 years is beyond me, but it's solid wood, well made and beautiful. I'll gratefully take it.

....they also kept THE MATTRESS and had been INSISTING OF COURSE THE TWENTY SEVEN YEAR OLD MATTRESS WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION....literally to the point our politely declining the mattress was becoming an argument.

Well, my father in law called dh today to say how sorry they were that they took it out of "storage" ie in a bag in the attic, and the mattress was indeed not usable....oh shucks!

Hahaha what a relief for you!!! I mean I can in a way understand a crib but a mattress!!!! that's funny!

Lol. Your in-laws remind me of mine. Except my in-laws offered me a stroller. Not DH's stroller. Just a random stroller they've had in the basement since the 80s. Don't ask me why. My mil insisted that it is in pristine condition because it had been stored carefully. Thankfully, DH vetoed that one.

I still think she's going to break it out once the LO is here. That and DH's baby toys.

Ha ha - your description of your inlaws describes mine too exactly. Insane but well meaning. Lol.

Awww bless them my MIL has kept dd2s high chair in the hope for a 3rd gran daughter but we are having a boy she still insists we use it for our son OH has put his foot down and said his son is not having a pink high chair lol

Omg. This evenings phone call was to review the video my fil made of himself putting the crib together, along with a lecture to dh about not scratching it so his sister can have it if/when she has children (she's 20, single, a sophomore in college)...

Haha the phone call and video instructions...😂

Lol!!!!!!! It's hard isn't it not to hurt people's feelings, I'm glad to hear the mattress is no useable! I won't even use the mattresses iv had for my own children!! My daughter is 3 and her cotbed mattress will go in the bin and the baby will get a new one, iv bought new mattresses for all my kiddies, the bedding etc I will re use but I can't bring myself to use the mattress lol
