Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows what criteria you need to meet before having private ivf in the uk?

My main question is how long do you have to be ttc with unexplained infertility before they will treat you or does it not matter?

I guess it could depend on what clinic you use but would be interested to hear from anyone who knows.

Thanks

I don't think it really matters for private as you're paying for the treatment. I'd get as many tests done on the NHS if you haven't already though, as treatment is expensive enough without paying for the tests as well...

Go onto the hfea website to research your possible clinics - you should be able to get success rates and reports from inspections and such like. I'd also request information from a couple of clinics if you have the choice of more than one - and then go with whichever you feel most comfortable with.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply maz - we've already had tests on nhs. Dh SA was very good - FS was shocked by how good the results were. I've had lap & dye - no problems found. Got next appointment in April with FS, he told us if not pregnant by then he would start paper work for ivf so ready when we get to the 2 year mark.

Keep thinking that it seems rather quick to get to that stage after 2 years ttc.

Was just curious about private ivf criteria - dh is 38 this year and is keen to get ball rolling asap x

hi there,
I agree with what Mazz has said.

You can either have your Dr refer you or just as easily do a self referal. Thats what we did last month, I looked in to clinics online then contacted about 3 before decided on one. The clinic will do a male and female health screen and scan then depending on the results the clinic will recomend a treatment plan. I've found my clinic very helpfull and now am just about to start IVF treatment. Its all in my TTc jounral!!

Hiya

I thought you had to be unexplained for 3 years for NHS funded IVF, although it may vary from PCT to PCT. 2 years seems very short for treatment to be starting with NHS, I really hope for your sake it is as that would be great!!

I am sure a private clinic would treat you straight away subject to necessary tests, so good luck if you decide to crack on with IVF. I am starting treatment soon myself.

After we got a bad SA we looked into clinics and booked an appointment we had only been ttc for less than a year at the time and nothing was asked when the appointment was booked.
