I'm pretty sure Willie has croup. She's gotthe noise when she breathes in :(

What do I do? She's ok atm, sleeping in my bed, but its making me really panicky. When she was tiny she had a croup like attack andi had to call an.ambulance because her lips were going blue so the idea of her getting bad like that is terrifying me.

All i want to do is take her to the walk in centre but I don't know if that's because of what happened when she was a baby more then her needing to go

I have been so lucky with the girls health and this is making me feel really anxious.

Croup isn't too bad right? :'(

Croup affects kids in different ways, some can handle it ok and some do get bad with it.

I've heard running the bathroom taps and sitting in the steam filled room helps but of course if you are concerned get her looked at by a doctor, even if it puts your mind at ease it'll be worth it. Hope she gets better soon. x

Take her to a&e if its still the same, my boy has had it twice now and the last time was only a few days ago. My babies hardly get ill so hearing that croup cough is so scary! I took him straight to hospital at midnight because he was wheezing when he breathed. They gave him some medicine with a small amount of steroid in to open the airways. His breathing got better within an hour. The following day it had got a lot better and by the end of the day all he was left with was a normal cough (which is still ingering but that's normal). Croup can clear at home but could take longer. Sitting in a steamy room helps apparently xx

We are on day 8 of croup with Roman. His cough is much looser & his voice is much less hoarse. Its like he has a nasty cold now.
My kids are pretty good at fighting things off themselves though, Id take willow in if she has any breathing issues because nics little saskia was very poorly in hospital with croup last week.

My eldest Evan had croup as a baby and ended up in hospital with it, the doctor told me it is an infection in the voice box so when they sound like they are wheezing and can't breathe, it is actually the voice box making the horrid noise. I have always been told to take them outside into the cold fresh air (wrapped up) for a few minutes, then take them into a steamy room (run all the hot taps in the bathroom and leave the door closed). Hope she gets better soon. xx

Also after he had had it the once he got it once or twice every year until he was about 5 apparently it is a recurring illness in some kids xx

my youngest had a bad croup attack a year ago. I called nhs direct and they sent an ambulance out and he was taken to hospital. He was given some steroid medicine which opened the airways and he was well enough to go home after a couple of hours. They told me if it happened again or if any of the other kids got it, then I was take them straight to a&e for the medicine as without it, the symptoms can last days.

If your mummy 'spidey' sense tells you something isn't right do not hesitate to take her to A&E, a couple of things to look out for though when she breathes in does her neck suck in a little bit near the collar bone? and does it suck in under her ribs?

If yes on either of those and she isn't getting better and you just 'feel' something isn't right then she needs to be seen and given steroids to open her airways.

Its very very important she doesn't get distressed (i read this on the chart in A&E about croup for the doctors) as it closes the airway up even more.

Its a pretty scary thing that in very rare cases can be serious but most recover quickly after some medicine.

Totally agree with the mummy 'spidey' sense...go with your instincts.

Try the steamy room, and if you're not convinced she's getting any better, take her to be seen.

Huge hugs, lovely, it's so horrid when they aren't well.

Thank you for the replies ladies.

Thankfully she's coped much better this time. Poor bug isn't happy at night though.

I didn't read all of the replies but unfortunately it's 10x worse at night. I had to take Sophia to the hospital a few months back and they had to give her steroids. They told me to bring her back in right away if she really struggled to breathe.

They told me at night if it got to where she wouldn't sleep/coughing so bad to take her in the bathroom and let the steam from a hot shower build up. A cool mist humidifier in her room during the night and to take her outside as much as I could during the day.

Good luck! It was awful when Sophia had it. :nope:
