Hi Im new to this site having come across it whilst googling problems with my baby.

Can anybody help? My daughter is 17 weeks old on Thurs and weighed 14lb 15oz last Thursday. She is currently on 6oz of Aptamil every 3-4 hrs. Sleeps for 10hrs at night and doesn't wake for a feed.

After every feed (except her last feed which she usually falls asleep) she will start to cry and scream, throw herself backwards going very stiff and puts her hands into her mouth. This usually lasts for approx 15-20mins and I cannot console her?

Is it reflux? Should I give her more milk or try hungrier baby milk?

Any ideas anybody?

Hi, welcome to the site :)
My baby is 18 weeks and what you describe happens to us often.... sometimes because feeding just doesn't hold the same interest and pleasure as it did when she was a newborn, and she just doesn't want to lie still, and sometimes it's trapped wind.
Does she drain her bottles? I believe in offering more than they will take, then you know when they're full, because they've stopped drinking.

Do you use the correct age teats? Too slow teats can cause wind and frustration!

Hi Sarah :flower: Welcome to BnB!
Have you asked your health visitor about it?
My first idea is that it might be trapped wind.Have you tried holding her more upright when you're feeding her? Also Avent and a couple of others do anti-colic teats which might be worth a try.
And like Mum2b_claire said is she draining her bottles?Try offering her more milk,it might be that she's still a little bit hungry.
But I definitely think you should have a chat to your health visitor too and see if she's got any better suggestions xx

Hi, my baby does this and has been diagnosed with both colic and oral thrush.

He only takes half the bottle and then goes rigid when I try to give him the rest and his hands sometimes go to his mouth

Thanks Mum2b-Claire and Jen1604 for your replys.

Yes she does drain her bottles and so I have now given her an extra oz to see if this helps.

She is on Tommy Tippee anti colic teats size 2 which I believe are correct for her age. She doesn't seem to have a problem with these or their flow as she can drink her bottle off in 10 mins.

She won't allow me to wind her during the bottle as she gets so upset and this causes her more trauma then just letting her take it all at once.

I spoke to my health visitor who thought it maybe reflux but she was not overly concerned and didn't offer much advice!!

I will see how she goes on with the extra oz and see if this makes any difference.

Thanks again.
