Crying for a feed but not taking the milk

My LO cries for a feed and is hungry but sometimes won't take the milk. She'll just hold the bottle in her mouth. I've tried a dummy. Other times she'll just take an oz and then fall asleep. Has anyone got any suggestions for encouraging her to take the milk?

Have you tried using a different teat, or adjusting the temperature?

Falling asleep can be a sign that it's too slow and LO is bored - if your brand of bottle makes one you could try a variflow? Dylan used to refuse his bottle if it wasn't warm enough, so it might also be an idea to try varying the temperature and see if that helps.

If she's still crying when she has the teat in her mouth; perhaps she has wind. My LO will cry for what seems like her wanting milk, but will pull a face when it's in her mouth, and spits it out. If you wind her, she will do a massive burp, and continue to feed as mormal Worth a try

The MW suggested the variflow teat. We tried that but it hasn't made much difference. She does take the dummy too, but can't seem to hold it in her mouth for long. You have to either hold it in for her or prop her hand by the dummy to hold it in. I dunno if she's just a lazy baby when it comes to taking milk. I had the same problem breastfeeding. She would wind herself up because she couldn't suck enough then go to sleep.

Could be any of the above..or that she's just looking for comfort, thats what mine used to do and thats what mother said he was doing!
