What age was your LO when you stopped cutting grapes? LittleMoo goes ape if I cut her grapes now! I'm so tempted to stop, but theres just that niggling doubt. Mind you, even I could choke on a grape right?

I cut my eldest he's 4 and half nearly

I would stop around 5 years old. DS doesn't mind sliced grapes at all.

DD is 4 in April and I dont cut them..she's well able for them...but she isn't allowed to run around, leave the room or generally leave my line of sight while she's eating them just incase...

I still do and will still continue for a very long time. The girl in the news this week was only 6. It really goes to show :(

My ds is 6 and I still cut his. There was a 6yr old choked a
couple yrs ago just down the road from us. So easy to choke, and so easy to cut them, so why not?

I still cut my daughter's (she is almost 4). She can eat perfectly well and doesn't run around etc while eating- it's just that f she chokes by accident, which is usually how people choke, a whole grape is the perfect size to block off her small airways. I don't let her eat candy floss and keep nagging my husband to stop letting her eat pop corn too. I also slice her sausages lengthways before chopping them up in to bite sized pieces for her. Some say I'm OTT, but I don't care!

Yep, this exactly. It's not hard to do and the alternate doesn't bear considering.

I cut grapes for Alex (Louis doesn't like them but if he did I would cut them for him too). Alex loves stuffing them in at a rate of knots so couldn't imagine not doing so. I also cut sausages lengthways. Off track I know but I was seething when I collected Alex on his last day of nursery and he was running around the room with a chupa chup lolly in his mouth. The round boiled sweet type.

I still cut grapes and my two will be 4 and 6 this year. I don't know when I'll stop. The little girl this week who choked and died was only six :(

I stopped when DS was 2 as I thought that they were the same choking hazard as other foods, then when the pizza hut incident highlighted how they get stuck and can't be disloged I started chopping again and don't plan to stop for a good few years. Better be safe than sorry. And lollipops! I think they should be adult only, lol, I just don't see any good in giving them to children but people don't seem to know. On halloween last year my local baby group done a pass the parcel with lollipops in the wrappers for children aged 1 to 3 years. :S Worrying stuff.

Oh yes I agree on the lollipops Mrs B! They were offering my boys some at their hairdresser and I said NOOO! No way will they get those any time soon!
As for the grapes, I cut them in to quarters but at times we have shared an apple & grape snack pack and then I did not. I have just decided I will not buy those any more, it is just too scary.

I cut them for my 6.5 yr old, but not my 11 Yr old, so I guess somewhere i between is the time I'll stop.

I still cut my LO grapes at almost 4 years old and I will for years yet. It's not much of an extra effort and the alternative scares me.

I hate lollipops too, I'm always on edge when she eats one that someone has given her.

I'm not sure when il stop but it will be a long time definately.

I took the lolly off Alex and had an afternoon of hell for it. Small price to pay though.

I still cut my son's grapes, no plans to stop any time soon. He also doesn't like them being cut, so I started eating grapes with him, and cutting mine too, and seeing me eat them the same way that he did made him happier about it. Could you try that too?

I still cut grapes. On occasions though Rio has helped his self to them in the kitchen and started eating them uncut. They are just so scary :( but he loves them.

I don't allow him to have lollipops though. I think he's had 2, ever. And only ever been allowed a couple of 'licks' rather than sucks whilst I was sat next to him then I've told him it's all gone. I bet he thinks I'm crazy when he's looking at it when I take it away and can clearly see there's loads left :haha:

To be honest a stopped cutting grapes around 2.5. However I make her bite every single grape lengthways and show me (and I watch her like a hawk). It's actually a lot more time consuming than just cutting them for her but at least she knows that's how you eat grapes and now she automatically bites them in half and shows the nearest adult! I'm just concerned that she will get hold of whole grapes from someone else one day (relative / play date/ other kids lunchbox etc) and needs to know how to eat them properly. My youngest are 14months old and neither has even tried a grape yet but I would definitely cut for them

I still cut them for Nico, he'll be 4 in May. He doesn't mind though because thats how they eat them after they've had lunch in preschool so if he wants grapes he actually asks me to cut them the same way he eats them in school as I'm preparing them.
