I understand that the surgeon detaches the cord from the placenta during a c-section, but wondered whether dh is able to still cut the cord afterwards? With our ds, who was premature, the team whisked him away and dh didn't have option. This pregnancy is going fine so far and I'm planning an elective at 39 weeks, all bring well. So if there aren't any complications do u think it will be possible for himto have his daddy moment?

Yes my husband was asked if he wanted to cut the cord after both my children were born.

dont know we were never asked. but i wouldnt have wanted him to anyways i didnt want him anywhere near that end, i wouldnt have wanted him to see my belly open. not something id want to see and i dodnt want him to see either. he saw our dd being born and cut her cord.

but we wernt asked

yeah i just had an emcs on the 28th and they asked him if he wanted to cut the cord after the surgeon did. they said as long as there werent any complications they are allowed to do it

My dh cut the cord for both of my babies - one was an EMCS and the other was elective.

They *SHOULD* let your OH cut them. Mine was very rushed but I was screaming and begging for them to let OH cut the cord and they forgot. :(

i dont think the cutting the cord is a big issue tbh. but with my section they never asked us and oh held ds first

I wrote it down in my birth plan even though things did not go to plan and i needed an emcs, he was still offered to cut the cord which he did :cloud9:

Had EMCS, DH was told before they took me in theater that he wouldn't be able to cut the cord. May depend on hospital.

My husband was able to cut the cord during my EMCS (he was premature too).

Same here- there was a sterile area around my abdomen that OH was no allowed to enter. However as a compromise, they cut the cord close to me to free baby, then took baby and cord over to be checked and weighed, OH was allowed to clamp and cut the cord to the correct length.

Husband did, he didnt see anything of me, because the doctors take the baby to a table with a longer cord to cut. So then he cuts at the table.

Not sure actually! Your best to ask your MW/Doc/Hosp as everywhere is different! :flower:

I saw on the video that they asked my OH if he wanted to cut the cord he was like "no thank you, you're lucky I'm still conscious" lol...
I don't really see the point of it, to me it's just another needless tradition invented for no reason that women get devastated about if it doesn't happen.
