Thought I'd come by and share Christian's birth story. He was due on January 5, 2013, but was scheduled to come via csection on December 31. On Tuesday, December 11, I woke up having contractions. I had had some before, but nothing I thought much about. They were pretty erratic. This time, for some reason, I thought I should pay attention to them, so I texted DH at work and told him about them. We decided to time them, so I did that for a few hours. They were about 10 minutes apart and lasted 2 minutes each. They stopped around 11am or so and I fell asleep on the couch. Then, at 1pm, they woke me up again and were more painful. I timed them again and they were about 3-7 minutes apart and about 45 seconds to 1 minute long. DH said maybe I should call the doctor's office and just let them know. As I was on the phone with the receptionist, I was barely able to talk to her through the contractions, and she asked me why I wasn't on my way to the hospital. I got off the phone with her and called DH to tell him I should be going to the hospital. He came home, and decided to put my hospital bag (and the car seat) in the car and off we went.
They put me on the monitor and my contractions were 4 minutes apart. A resident came in to check my cervix and said I was 0cm dilated, 50% effaced and the baby was at -3 station.
She let me go for another 2 hours and came back to check again. This time, I was 1cm dilated, 60% effaced and still -3 station. She said because my contractions were making things progress, she was going to talk to my doctor about what to do next. A few minutes later, it was determined I was going to have my baby... and s/he was coming THAT NIGHT! Oh wow! I wasn't ready! It couldn't be possible!
They brought in everyone I needed to see to prep me, ask me questions and get me ready to be a mommy (again) that night! DH put on his scrubs and we waited to be brought down to the OR. As they were wheeling me down, I was told another woman went into labor across the hall and my doctor had to deliver her first.
They wheeled me back to my room and we hung out there for a while. I could actually hear the other woman giving birth across the hall. As soon as we heard the baby crying, we knew it was my turn soon! They came back in and wheeled me (again) down to the OR. DH waited in the hall while I got my epidural. It was pretty painful, but I got through it.
DH came back in and they began my csection. At 923pm, our little bundle came screaming into the world. They held him up for DH to see and he said, as proud as can be, "it's a boy!" They cleaned him up a little and gave him to daddy right away. After they stitched me up and brought me into the recovery room, I was able to have him. Oh, he was beautiful! Christian Jacob was finally ours and we couldn't be more thrilled!
After twin boys, 7 more years, losing our baby girl last December, a surprise pregnancy, and a long nine months, we have our three boys and I am in love!
We just got the most wonderful Christmas present ever!
