Day 21 blood test- Help needed please :)

Hi Ladies,

Sorry if this has been asked before, Im so confused about when to have my day 21 blood test!

I only have a 12 day LP and always ovulate later in my cycle- this month was CD 17, day 21 would obviously only be 4dpo so I am guessing I avoid getting my progesterone checked then....my question is though, do I get my progesterone checked 7 days AFTER ovulation or 7 days before AF which would be 5dpo?!

I need to go within the next 3 days but don't want to get the timing wrong and have to be retested again next month, this has been a long ass process as it is!

Any advice would be appreciated thanks xxx

My doctor knew I had 34-35 day cycles and told me to test on CD21. I'm also seeing a gynecologist next month. My GP made the referral and stated I had slightly longer cycles and the gynecologist has asked for CD21 testing this cycle and next.

The idea is to check whether you've ovulated. Based on 30 day cycle, CD14 is the typical ovulation day and CD21 is a week later. I've read that for longer cycles you should follow O +7 days to test. The first day of AF is consider CD1, so the CD 21 test is 21 days after AF starts.

But if you told your doctor your length of cycle and they said to test CD21 I'd go with that. Otherwise ring and check. I'm planning to test CD21, not CD 28-29, a week after I O.

Definitely test 7dpo or later. If you test too soon the progesterone levels wont have time to build up enough to accurately read O. My first OBGYN told me to do a 21 day draw, when I changed docs my new doc said to 7dpo. Good thing because I ovulated on CD19 my first Clomid cycle and a 21 day draw would have been useless!

I just had my bloods at cd21. They can check to see if you're ovulating from there. All came back ok for me apart from thyroid is up. Not enough for medication but re-test in 2 months! On the list now to see the gynecologist too.

thanks ladies I went 7dpo which would be day 23 for me, its so confusing! Hoping everything will come back okay! fingers crossed x
