Woke up this morning feeling crummy so I took a dose of DayQuil...then looked at the label later and saw that it said to ask a doctor before use if pregnant. I'm trying not to worry or feel guilty since I really didn't know, and I won't take more til I ask doctor what's safe...but can someone please put my mind at ease that I didn't in any way harm my son??

No no Hun! That's off limits. Do not take when pregnant. Please call your dr or pharmacist before taking any meds.

I don't think you've harmed your son, but Dayquil is not safe for pregnancy. The acetaminophen in it is fine, but the dextromethorphan and phenylephrine are category C drugs (Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.)

One dose is very unlikely to cause any damage, but don't take anymore :)

It is off limits. Lots of meds are, your dr or midwife should have a list of safe things for you to take. I had it on my fridge last pregnancy.

Okay...feeling like the worst mother in the world now. And starting to panic. Do I need to do something...call dr, go to hospital etc??

You already took it and they arent going to pump your stomach for taking one dose of dayquil. I don't think activated charcoal would work at this point either since its most likely too late and the drugs are in your system already.
You might want to let your doctor know that you took it but I don't think you need to rush to the hospital or anything. I don't think there is much they can do at this point other than tell you things will most likely be fine and not to stress out too much over it.

It's not like you drank an entire bottle of poison or something.

Nothing to do now, just let it be... I'm sure baby is fine just don't take anymore. Don't mean to sound rude, we all make mistakes but why would u take a medication without checking if its safe for pregnancy first?

I saw that the active ingredient was acetaminophen, and just assumed it was okay. Didn't notice the doctor warning til later. Huge lapse in judgement and a mistake I'll never make again.

awww hun please dont worrie.:hugs: I made the same mistake when i was pregnant with my first.:nope: I didnt think about it at all then bam i thought i wonder if you can take this while preg. It is deff on the no no list but my doc said one dose isnt going to cause any side affects on the baby. she is now a healthy 4 y/o. Dont beat yourself up about it. Let your doc know you took some without thinking if it was safe during pregnancy and he will make you feel better.
Again make sure you watch the next time you wanna take a medicine and make sure its on the ok list but you are not a horrible mom because you did take it ok:hugs:

Yeah I really wouldn't beat yourself up and I am sure your son will be 100% fine! I would mention it to your doctor next appointment but don't worry. Just don't take anymore. :)

No don't feel bad :hugs: I don't think there is much you can do now. I have known women who take whatever and their babies are fine. Your next appt I would def ask for the list, one of the downsides of pregnancy is the limited meds you can take lol. Hope you feel better soon, being sick is no fun.
