31st January at 10 days overdue I began having irregular contractions, nothing painful just uncomfy so waited it out until 9am then called DH to come home from work.
Rang the hospital when pains were coming about every 4 minutes and lasting for a minute. The midwife was lovely and told me to come in so we headed off at 11am.
I was examined as we got there and was 5cm! Whoo hoo with no pain relief at all.
We waited around for a bed in the labour ward as I wanted the spa room for a water birth and at about 2.30pm it was available - gas and air brilliant while we waited -although hubby insisted on trying it and then moaned for half an hour feeling sick - men!!
Anyway got in the pool about 3pm total bliss! Pain was 10% what it was before! Floated around and made a few calls etc, genuinely having a lovely time with hubby, some quality time alone together before bubs arrived.
About 4.45pm midwife wanted to examine me again so had to get out and go to the labour room for a bed - while being checked, she found I was only 7cm and suddenly my waters went - everywhere! So we headed back to the pool but half way down the corridor I had a huge urge to push!
Back in the pool no one would listen that I needed to push (had 2 midwives and hubby there) so I went ahead and did anyway - 4 mins later and 2 pushes while they all chatted oblivious to my pushing, DH shouts oh my god there's a head and before anyone could react - Baby Jack was born and floated up onto my tummy! To the shock of everyone - nothing ready, no clamp, delivery pack etc!
Had to climb out to deliver the placenta and then walked upto the labour room for a shower and a spot of quality time with our new addition.
Jack Thomas Nixon was born at 5.20pm weighing 7lb 9oz - he is amazing, a great sleeper and is adored by Grace!!
I would recommend a water birth to anyone- it was the most wonderful and beautiful experience ever!! (perhaps apart from the last few mins - pushing isn't such a joy haha)
I am totally in love!! Xx
