I tried porridge fingers this morning but was a total fail. Sophie had great fun digging into the mush but I'd much rather they were in finger form!

I found a recipe that said make up porridge usual way (I used half BM/half cows though)and then just bake in oven. It never got hard enough to cut into fingers though?

Anyone got a tried and tested recipe that works well? Porridge is my morning staple (I am Scottish after all :haha:) so would like it to work :D

Thanks :D

I don't oven bake it, just heat in microwave. But what I do is add enough milk to make a wet mush and let sit for 2 minutes to absorb (I also add fruit puree to sweeten along with the milk, so that is part of the moisture content as well). Then I microwave for 2 minutes, allow to cool a bit and cut or roll into balls. I personally find it works better as balls.

I found one which was more finger than mush, 3 tablespoons of oats and 3 table spoons of milk mixed well together then microwave for 2 mins in a bowl. I let it rest then spoon it out to cut into fingers. My LO turned her nose up at it though!

Thank you both.

Microwave is a lot handier in mornings too!

Attempt 2 tomorrow morning :D

I might have to add some fruit, I tried cinnamon which she wasn't keen in either. I've heard banana is a good start.

Sarah let us know how you get on! I forgot to say the 2 mins is based on a 800w microwave, ours is 900w so I took 10 seconds off.

Fruit is yummy in porridge :D

I tried again and managed to make it into fingers. But it wasn't very tasty. Do yours usually go quite sticky? I ended up just giving her preloaded spoons to feed herself. She was more interested in a banana though :haha:

I make mine in the microwave too but I tend to add smooth peanut butter to the softened oat mix to help thicken it (stole idea from another poster). Rather than fingers I scoop them into balls. Lo loves them and the mix goes less sticky with the peanut butter. Ive tried grated apple, pear and banana but find it stays a bit wet.

Thank you we will give the peanut butter a try. That's a great idea :D

i use exual amounts of oats to water. then microwave for 2 mins. roll into balls.

if we arnt going out ill then roll them in more oats & bake for 10-15 mins for a crunch x

or cut into fingers & cover in oats & bake. then she dips them in yogurt x
