Hello Sisters -

Anyone out there suffering from depression while TTC? Anyone fall into a depression after TTC unsuccessfully for so long?

What meds are you taking? What therapies are you using?

How are you feeling?

I'm going to see my GP today to ask for medication - just looking for some sister-friends who can relate. We need to band together!

<3 & Peace

Hi and yes I am in the deepest depression I have ever been in because of this whole ttc process. I always suffered from anxiety/panic attacks and was on and off meds. I think i'm going to need to be on something soon though. It's just so hard to deal with this :(

I think I am on my way to getting a proper depression following years of TTC. However, I would definitely not consider taking any medication as this will affect your general health and fertility as a result. I am trying kundalini yoga which is supposed to help release negative emotions using exercises and repeating mantras. It's actually very scientific, all to do with balancing hormones and other chemicals in our bodies that can ultimately change our mind-set and help with depression.

I think I'm on the road to clinical depression too. I'm not sure I'm ready for meds yet, but I've been looking around for therapists and will go from there.

I understand how you feel :( Last month it was the worst it's ever been but then I got the flu this month and it actually helped me not to think for 2 whole weeks! That was the greatest blessing I've had in a while bc it got my mind off of it and I feel better now.

Same here ladies, I suffer from general anxiety disorder, so this TTC and inferility is making it so much worse. I do believe me working out when I can and acupunture has help tremendously, but still anything can set me off.

Hi ONE how are you? How did the consultation go with the new RE? I see your signature said IVF soon, so I assume it was good?

Hey Chris, it went well. I love Dr. Davis' energy and positivity. I feel that Dr. Grazi was all doom & gloom, but Dr. Davis is, in his own word "cautiously opptimistic" by nature. He does want to perform another HSG (last one I had was in July 2011). I do that on Wednesday and pending the results of that and my blood work we are good to go in March. I am participating in their Co-Coulture program (which the he thinks I will benefit from) which basically means that prior to the IVF, they do a uterine biopsy and some bloods and freeze it and then it time for EC, they join the embryo with that piece of the uterine wall and bloods. They have success with implantation, because the environment, when they do the ET will be similar. I am praying with everything I have that this works, because its not cheap and I dont know if I can afford another.

How are you? When us your consultation?

My hubby thinks I'm heading down this road.

We're going to see a therapist who specialises in infertility and consider medication if it doesn't help. I don't like taking medication though so the decision to go on antidepressants is not one I will take lightly.

Princess Lou, I am the same way about taking meds for depression/anxiety. I tried it for a while, but didnt like the way I felt on them. I feel much better after a good cardio session, unfortunately, I dont go to the gym as often as I like. But, if its is strongly recommended by my therapist, I would do it. Its a catch 22

Wow that's amazing what they can do! That's great that he is doing everything and not playing games. I am really praying for you and I have a good feeling! You are right Grazi was all doom n gloom and I didn't get that vibe of hope from him and always walked out sad. My consultation isn't until feb 12th :( but it's almost here. Did I ask you if you had a laporoscopy done? Is there a way you can get insurance that would cover something?

Chris, I agree about Grazi, I never left his office feeling confident. I did have a laparoscopy when I had the HSG done in July 2011. At that time my obgyn did every test imaginable while I was under anesthesia. All came back normal except mild endo, which he cleaned up. My insurance did pay for that.

I hope your consultation goes well and you are confident with your dr. My acupuntrist just prescribed herbs I have to drink 2x a day. I'm going to try it for 2 weeks and see if I can tolerate it. she is pretty excited I finally agreed to the herbs. I'm still paying for a natural BFP.

Please keep me posted on your consultation.

Maybe the herbs will be helpful! I'm praying for us <3 I will keep you posted!

I have Bipolar Disorder and am on medication for it. I had consultations with a psychiatrist who specialises in pregnancy and we adjusted my meds a bit but decided to remain on them as having an episode would be more dangerous than taking the meds. It was a hard choice but it's right for me.

I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder and Anxiety. At its worst point, I start to feel suicidal so I end up admitting myself to the hospital. Im on meds that keep me stable. My last hospitalization was almost a year ago. I take Remeron (15mgs am and 30 pm) Ativan as needed (which I take MAYBE 1 time every 3 months or so) and Seroquel (100mg am and 200mg pm). Because I am so stable on them, my Psychiatrist and OBGYN said to continue taking them while TTC and when I get pregnant cuz the benefits def outwight the potential risks. I also see a therapist every 2-4 weeks. I talk to him about everything, from work to TTC. It helps alot.
I understand not wanting to take meds. If u r able to handle things without them, more power to u. But know that they arent all bad! I dont have any side effects from mine at all!

Hi ladies,

Another depressed chick right here! I've struggled with mild/moderate depression for most of my adult life and have been handling it with weekly therapy, regular exercise, acupuncture, and an antidepressant. Going through IVF has made it much worse. I react very badly to the progesterone supplements and am basically a weepy mess when I'm in cycle. I've talked to a psychiatrist who specializes in reproductive issues and she recommends that I increase my antidepressant dosage when I do my third IVF cycle next month. I'm not thrilled about doing that, but I agree that it's probably for the best. I don't think we can overestimate the toll all these hormones take on our bodies.

What is the one thing that you ladies feel helps you the most? For me (besides an SSRI!) it's exercise. Only problem is I lack the motivation to work out as frequently as I should.

For me, the things that help the best are: my meds (of course) and talking openly about everything going on in my life. Not just to my therapist. To my DH, Mom, Dad, Sister, Aunts, Cousins, Inlaws, Close Friends. I have learned, that I get in the most trouble when I keep things to myself. Especially after something bad happens. Everyone close to me, my support system, knows we r TTC with difficulty. I know, that If something happens, I need my ENTIRE support system helping me. This support system includes those listed above, my therapist, my obgyn, my Psychiatrist, and my Primary Dr.

I suffer from major depressive disorder. I had my first clinical depression at 35 (5 years ago) after learning I had fertility problems, the economy collapsed and I was building a house that turned out to be way over budget, my mom's health was failing and my husband lost his job. My fertility probe were explained by a high FSH level. I started to worry about everything and eventually stopped sleeping when trying IUI cycles prior to two IVF cycles over the next two years. I was hospitalized for a week because I was totally out of it from lack of sleep and the thought was that my med adjustments would be more aggressive there. Anyway after the first depression 5 years ago I seem to get severely depressed once a year when I get highly stressed with work, my marriage etc. My depression got so bad last summer I wasn't able to work. I had no stress for the past 4 months, stopped taking my AD because they never worked for me anyway - and I conceived on my own right before my 40th birthday. I thought it was going to be my most depressing birthday ever but it helped to bring me out of the depression. I think for me the old idea that you need to relax was what worked for me, it's the only thing that I did differently. Wishing you all BFP soon.
