We should hopefully find out on the 1st of December whether we are team :pink: or :blue:

We have a boy's name picked out - Oliver Grainger Wright (my dad's name for the middle name as he passed away in 2009).

But we're having major trouble choosing girls names.

Some that I like and can't go for are

Ella - my friend had a baby girl and named her Ella in June
Mia - hubby's cousin's youngest girl is Mia
Elizabeth - this was a serious contender, with the nickname Libby, but mil insists on using the nickname Lizzie, so that's gone from the list as I don't want to confuse the poor baby when she's a bit older and getting two different nicknames :dohh:
Ivy - this is after hubby's nana, but his other nana would throw a hissy fit and I'm really not keen on her name to be able to include it

Nothing is really jumping out at us at the moment and it's driving me absolutely batty, so am wondering if anyone has any suggestions please?

My friend's neice is Libby and her full name is Liberty.

Anna or Rose are a couple I really like :)

Iris
Rosemary
Charlotte
Violet
Phoebe
Lydia

Thanks for the suggestions ladies <3

I love Phoebe, but we've got one on dh's side of the family.

Elizabeth really was the front runner for a girl's name as it was my nan's name. But I really don't like the nickname Lizzie as it just reminds me of that Lizzie Mcquire programme from the disney channel from years ago :dohh:

I'd done a list on Nameberry and so far have

Alexis
Abigail
Lorelai (but dh has said no because it reminds him of the Gilmore Girls)
Eleanor

Can't remember the other ones as their site is playing up and I can't access the list :dohh:

Love Eleanor and Abigail!

Elodie? Eliza?

I like Elizabeth. I think if you don't like Lizzy just make it clear to friends and sniley that you don't want it using as a Nn xx

We did that with my mum and explained why as she immediately said Lizzie for a nickname, but when we said the same to mil she completely ignored us and insisted she will use the nickname Lizzie :dohh:

Eliza is lovely, but again we have one in the family and was one of the flowergirls at our wedding.

I'm sure something will pop out to us at some point. It just feels a bit frustrating being so set on a boy's name and having next to nothing for a girl

I would for sure use Elizabeth/Libby and tell the MIL to get lost. It's your daughter not hers, and it would be ridiculous her insisting on a different nn to everyone else!

To be honest I totally agree, but she is the sort of person to just go for it and use whatever nickname she wanted. And her saying so has really put me off in a way :dohh:

My favourite girls name is Elowyn nn: Ellie, Elle, Winnie, Lola

I think we have made progress :happydance: dh seems to like Eleanor and thinks it flows nicely with our surname (Wright) :cloud9:

Eleanor Wright is a BEAUTIFUL name! Perfection.

I love Eleanor!

I can understand that your MIL has put you off Elisabeth, I would feel the same. But if you went for it, it wouldn't take long for Libby to get old enough to tell Granny that "Lizzie" is NOT HER NAME. Trust me. :-D

Other names you may like:
Emmie (Emily?)
Catherine
Aurora

I'm an Emily <3 so that's why we've avoided anything too similar to that

I'd be  if we had a little girl and she eventually told mil that :haha: does that sound cruel of me? The woman literally drives me batty

I think we're pretty much decided on Eleanor as I have to say I love how it flows with our surname :cloud9:

Haha, didn't look at your name! Eleanor really is beautiful. ❤️
You'll be surprised how quickly little ones rebel against people trying to force their agendas on them. I used to have to tell my mum off lots about her refusing to do things our way with the kids, now my oldest tells her "that's not what we do"
