Hi all,
Anyone else with a T1D DH?
Hoping to maybe get some insight into what your journey has been like or was like and if any doctors were ever concerned with T1D in the history.
Thanks!
Hey there I know this is a little bit older but I wanted to respond. My DH has Type 2 diabetes, which was actually discovered as we were going through fertility testing. One of the red flags was his 2nd SA, which had gone from the lower side of normal to VERY poor in just 5 months. His overall count, morphology & motility were all affected because his sugar was out of control. (I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but I remember the count had gone from 42 million to 8 million.)
After a few months on Metformin, his 3rd SA was actually better than the 1st one! Everything was well within normal range, with a huge improvement to his morphology especially.
So my advice would be to make sure your DH maintains a good diet, takes a multi-vitamin and keeps his blood sugar level. The way my RE explained it, sperm production is sort of a lower priority for the male body when major organs like the heart and liver are at risk. The excess sugar is basically toxic to your cells, and it can cause DNA damage and fragmentation to sperm. The good news is, it seems like it is ultimately fixable
