i have gestational diabetes feel so down and upset, over here we do the 3 hour blood test they take one blood when u are fasting, they take another one hour after drinking a glucose drink then they take another an hour later!! i failed the fasting one only, the other two where within an okay range!!! they said because i only failed the fasting glucose they are gonna try me with the diet first i have to meet a dietican next week and the following week they are gonna check my fasting levels again!!! over here we measure the glucose levels in millimoles so the first fasting one is not ment to be over 5 millimoles and mine was 5.4 milimoles my second was 8.7 and its not ment to be over 10 and the third is not ment to be over 6 or 8 and mine was 6 i think i am not sure!!! so pissed off!!! anyone else have this happen??? i thought you had to fail 2 of the 3 tests to be diagnosed with gd?????

Hi! My fasting result was fine and my result two hours after the glucose drink was 7.8 and anything 7.8 or above sees a diagnosis of GD so I was only just diagnosed with it!

I too was upset, annoyed etc but have so far managed to control my levels with diet alone. Was diagnosed at the beginning of August and now only two weeks till my baby due and whilst still annoyed by diagnosis has been relatively easy controlling by diet and quite interesting seeing what does and what does not impact on readings!

Other plus is I have put on little weight and suspect that when I have the baby I will weigh less than I did when I got pregnant!

Honestly once you get over the diagnosis which took me a few days it is not that bad x

Im not sure if i have it yet, but i did develope it early @ 19 weeks in my last pregnancy. So in this pregnancy i just took the first test @ 14 weeks and my results came back borderline so now i have to do the 2 hour test, next week for a confirmed diagnosis.

I had it in my first pregnancy. One thing I had to remember was the it wasn't my fault. I was really blaming myself for it, but really it was just something that happened. I am actually very glad that I had it in the long run though. I learned how to eat well to control it, and my weight gain in my pregnancy stopped completely after 28 weeks. After my pregnancy I was able to lose weight easily, and now I am tying to get pregnant again, and I know how to eat well. I know that because I had to take extra care of myself before I am now able to stay healthy, and maybe not even gain weight in my next pregnancy. Don't worry about it. It's very manageable, and it will teach you so much about how your body works.

I had what they called impaired fasting glucose which is where my blood sugar would stay high over night and would not go below 98. I was told to watch my sugars and carbs. Towards the end of my pregnancy they started treating me like I had GD bc DD was measuring almost 7lbs at my 36 week ultrasound. I ended up being induced at 39 weeks and had a very healthy 7lb 15oz baby girl! I know it sounds scary but just watch what you eat and you will be fine.
