It's 3am and I'm sat in A&E! DH will have to leave for work at 6.30am and then LO will be up at 7am.. Oh the joy!

I've got eczema on my hands and I was scratching my wedding finger yesterday so much that it started bleeding. As the day went on, my finger started to swell a bit. I went to bed but woke up at midnight because my finger was throbbing. We tried everything to get the ring off.. Soaking hand in ice, lifting arm in the air, using creams/Vaseline, using a thread to wrap around finger, using cling film to compress my finger.. Everything just made it swell more. I was in tears at this point and started to lose feeling in my finger.

I'm sat waiting in A&E to be seen (3 hour wait) and I'm so upset that they might have to cut my engagement ring and wedding ring off. They are both platinum and have diamonds and cost around £6000 for them!

Did anyone have their rings cut off? And if so, could you get them repaired?

So sorry!! I haven't myself but some encouragement....DH works in the ER and he swears they have all sorts of tricks for removing stubborn jewelry! Perhaps even just a topical antihistamine for you? Not sure - but Here's hoping they can salvage your beautiful ring - and that you're feeling better soon! :hugs:

Aww no. I have really bad eczema on my hands as well and as soon as I feel it flaring up I have to take my rings off. I'm sure the will be able to repair them if they only use one cut to get them off. I had my engagement ring resized and they cut it and you couldn't even tell when it came back. Hopfully they managed to get it off without cutting it for you x

By the time I was seen, my finger above my rings resembled a purple sausage. Three different doctors looked and each agreed it was too swollen to try and get it off so they had to cut them off. I sobbed my heart out on my way home. I just think it's going to be bad luck now that our wedding band has been cut in two.
I'm going to ring around for prices to repair them today.

So I've had a whole 90 minutes sleep before LO woke up. Pass me the coffee!

Aw im really sorry they had to cut them. Hopfully you can have them repaired quickly, did you have them insured? They might cover the cost. Im sure you wont have bad luck, my dads on his second ring and my mums on her third (to each other) and they've been married 30years. X

Hi I hope your feeling a bit better. I work in a jewellers and I'm sure that you will be able to have them repaired. What we usually suggest is that you wait until the swelling on your finger has gone down, which can sometimes take up to 4 weeks depending on the person. Then we re measure your finger Size and price up how much it will be too add the metal required. X

Did you say you were pregnant? Cause sometimes we also suggest (depending how near your due date is) that you wait until after baby is born and then get them re sized, repaired etc. x

Haha.. No I'm not pregnant. I'm just in denial about my fingers becoming fat.

Thanks for the advice.

Oh bless you hun, have you got contents insurance to cover you? Maybe you could get the metal melted down and recreated into a ring so it's still the same blessed jewellery?

My ring ringer swelled a bit in pregnancy, I could still wear my wedding ring. But when the swelling went down after half DS2 the skin around the ring started to get really irritated, red and dry. I have to keep my rings off ATM as it is so sore, but as soon as I wear my rings again, particularly on a warm day it flares up again :( not sure what it is.

Apparently they can be repaired (thank god) and will cost around £65 each so not all bad. I need to wait until the swelling has completely gone down before I take the rings in so they can get the right ring size for my little chubby fingers!

Oh I'm so relieved for you, hope it goes down soon :)

Oh you poor thing! It's good you can get them repaired though. My fingers swelled lots in pregnancy and I had to take my rings off so constantly worried I'd lose them!

:hugs:

Still haven't got round to getting them fixed

I couldnt wear my rings about halfway through pregnancy due to pre eclampsia swelling.

I still couldnt wear them after bubs was born as my fingers were too fat so had them in my cupboard at home. Got broken into and lost the whole lot including my grandmas wedding ring, my wedding ring and engagement ring......

Got them replaced with the same rings except for Grandmas's but its not the same.
