So I watched all 6 episodes but am still slightly confused about a couple of things. I'm not sure whether I'm not supposed to know or whether I nodded off and missed things! Did anyone watch and know the following, I don't have time to go back and watch the whole series on iPlayer:

1. Lord Allingham. Why did he kill himself? and why did he kill the cow?

2. What happened to Caro's baby? One minute she had a baby and then it didn't get mentioned until episode 6 when Lady Allingham tells Grace about it.

3. The lady with lots of small girls (Margaret?), whose son Paul died in the war. Well I just watched episode 6 and all the women are in the bathhouse and Margaret is talking about her plans for Paul's funeral when Martha says "I know how Paul died". Then it cuts to another scene and then back to the bathhouse and it's just silence with Margaret and the girl with the curly blonde hair (can't remember her name) are looking stunned. Are we supposed to know what happened to Paul? Did I miss this in a previous episode?

If anyone can fill me in it would be great!

1) He was clearly mentally ill, it didnt really go into anything else

2)when Caro was in the dance in the village hall her family had a couple come and collect the baby, presumably an adoptive family?

3)Joe was sent to tell the family that Paul had died from been shot through the heart, however due to various things such as there being no bullet hole or blood on his uniform it was deduced that he had died from toxic gas poisoning.

Hope this helps! Xx

It was really hard to follow and I had to rewind some of the episodes a few times (watching on iplayer). I found it a really interesting programme though because I have ancestors from Derbyshire some of whom were like The Middletons though perhaps a bit better off and some who were like the Allinghams but the particular branch of the well off family I descend from, they became Methodists very early on in the history of the movement denounced their wealth and became quite ordinary and the lady who was my ancestor had an illegitimate child and that reduced the status of that branch of the family further. They also all came from Hayfield and nearby villages where this series was actually filmed. Xx
