hi ladies hope you don't mind me dropping in here my names Lindsey im 21 and have recently been diagnosed with pcos after having no periods since miscarrying in august 2011. im quite overweight and I am trying to gain a quite controlled diet, im being prescribed metformin after seeing a gyne im due to start it in a few day im unsure or my dose yet though. anyway im just wondering if anyone can give me some insight to what its like to be on met did it improve cycles moods ect im periods are very erratic and I don't ovulate im hoping to try and get this under control any help success stories or advice will be greatly appreciated

I was dx with pcos Dec 2012 and start met at that time. At first it seemed to help my cycles. It didn't give me a normal cycle but it gave me a 35-42 day long cycle instead of 1 every few months that I did have. You will most likely hear the same thing from everyone on Met but I HATE taking it. The side effects are awful. My doc ended up giving me the extended release which has helped but still hate it.

Best thing you can do is lose weight. After I started met, I quickly lost 10lbs. It will help make weight lose a little easier but it wont do the work for you. I'm also over weight so I know the struggle.

Metformin alone did not give me ovulation but I have successfully been able to ovulate on Clomid. May not have gotten my BFP yet but the biggest battle with PCOS is ovulation, once you ovulate, your chances of getting a BFP is that of everyone else.

Metformin helped me maintain my weight. I was also on it for my IVF cycle and will be taking it till 12 weeks as it helps prevent miscarriage in women with PCOS.

hi girls thanks for you replies im just really hoping met will work for me as at the moment I have no ov or periods :( what does your diet consist of when you have pcos x
