Hi Ladies, I hope you can help me.

I just wanted to ask if any of you have had a caesarean? if so did you manage to lift the baby etc when you got home. The reason i'm asking is that at my last scan I was told I have a low lying placenta, the midwife said it will probably move up and everything will be fine, she said if it doesn't move up then there is a chance I may need a C-section. I'm feeling very positive and i'm sure the placenta will move, but my DH wants to keep it in the mind that I may need a C-section (which I understand), but my DH was speaking to his Mum the other day and she said she knew someone who had a C section and really struggled to move after the birth and wasn't allowed to drive for 6 weeks, apparently she couldn't pick the baby up for weeks because of the pain, I just wanted to know if this is true. My DH wants us to keep our spare room as a guest room just in case I need help from my Mum and she stays over for a while but this would mean that we would turn our smallest bedroom (it's really tiny) into a nursery, but I really want the bigger room for the baby. Also I really don't want my Mum staying over after i've had the baby.

Thanks for your help

I had a csection and it is painfull after but it didnt stop me from holding the baby, you may need some help mind as bending and walking is painfull for a few weeks after and you dont want to over-do it x x

I had a section to !

Holding the baby was fine and as for the other stuff it was just a case of taking it easy and getting some help from the OH !

Holding baby was fine, just getting up and walking about was hard. xx

Holding the baby was fine with me too.

And I have to say that I think a planned c-section versus an emergency c-section is easier on the recovery. My first ended in an emergency c-section and it took me 3 weeks before I felt ok to do a bit more and walk more, whereas with my 2 planned c-sections, yes, there was some pain, but I was still able to do a bunch more more quicker.

I had an emergency c-section (during which they ended up damaging several of my organs and rupturing my bladder - it was very complicated) and although I couldn't get out of bed for a day after that things got much easier, by the time i came out of hospital 4 days after alex was born i was fine and could easily look after myself and him. Everyone recovers differently but I've rarely heard of someone not eing able to pick up the baby, in the one case i did hear of it the problem was severe spd not the c-section.

I had a section and I was taking care of Colton by myself as soon as we got home. You cannot drive for 1-2 weeks though, and they tell you not to lift anything that weighs more than your baby. :hugs:

I had a c-section and although I was in pain, and couldn't drive for 6 weeks I could still lift her up. I was told in hospital not to carry anything heavier than Erin. I felt fine in a few weeks and wanted to start driving etc sooner than 6 weeks but I waited just in case. I found walking a bit of a struggle too. Pottering around the house was ok but as soon as we went into town I got quite sore.

OH had section and I was home for 2 weeks afterwards, she felt uncomftable at times but always picked baby up to feed, change etc, she was given pain killers from hospital she needed them for less than 2 weeks and was allowed to drive after 4 weeks after checking with GP, hospital don't let you home unless your able to feed, change bum etc anyway so you have to lift baby.

Everyone heals differently but it is not something to worry yourselves over, I was probably more worried than she was and in the end everything was fine.

yeah holding baby was fine but u cant drive for 6week and it is hard to walk and do other things but other than that.

i had an emergency section and I was looking after her on my own from the min she was born. Was fine to hold her but a bit sore to move around but nothing I couldnt handle. Was a lot better after one week, almost normal after two. Ive prob done far too much in terms of lifting etc... even walking my unruly dog.

Like others have said, its not lifting your baby thats the problem, its getting up that you might need help with for the first couple of days. As long as you have someone with you for the first week or so, you will be fine. Keep on top of any pain relief they give you too, and don't overdo it.
Good luck hun, hope your placenta moves up :)

I found bending , coughing or standing hard to do , but i was fine to hold my son ..oh and BF was painful too as it makes your uterus contract lol ..but dont worry hun it will be fine !

I had an emergency section 6 days ago and still need help, although today's been better. You'll probably need a fair bit of help just getting out of bed let alone picking the baby up. Also other things like nappy changes where you have to bend down are a real bugger. It still hurts to laugh
Why not get your DH to help out? Dan's been fantastic, passing him to me and making tea, it's really helped lots :)

i had a csection and was in a lot of pain for about a week. i was still able to pick up my daughter and whatnot but i had the help of my mil around which really helped out! if you have to get a section i would say take all the help you can get as it can be a long healing process!

I was in hospital for 5 days after a C and I was in pain for about the first 3 1/2, day 4 was much and 5, well I couldn't wait to get home. Whilst in hospital, the bed was high so I didn't have to stand to pick Gabbi up from her cot so this made life much easier, but it is amazing how, when it comes to bubs, the pain tends to ease, maybe adrenalin rush, holding our little bundles, you go numb with happiness :)

Once you get home, do not lift anything, do not do housework, just deal with baby and let everyone help. If there is no one, then stuff the housework for a while until you feel well. Driving was a no no until 6 weeks.

I found it incredibly hard to get out of bed, sit up, walk etc. For the first couple of days the doctors wouldn't let me out of bed so hubby and the nurses had to hand me the baby if she was crying or change her nappy etc

I couldn't have managed without my hubby to help me, i could hold my baby but getting up to fetch her when she was in her cot crying would have taken me an age! Hubby used to have the crib next to him and hand her to me so i could feed her.

I started driving just before 6wks and we actually did a car boot sale when Amelia was only 6wks old so i guess i must have been feeling loads better!

i had an emergency c-section and although walking around and doing things was painful for the first couple of weeks, i never had problems picking maddi up. bending did hurt but my OH was amazing and would pass her too me and i used to sit and fed and look after her whilst he run round after us both :)

ive had 4 c sections you just have to take it easy in the 1st few weeks , my advice is rest as much as you can & take all the help you can get . violet xx

I had a Emergency C-section and i had no pain at all  I was up and walking and holding baby and all that straight away, Tho my body might recovered quickly because my body's used to operations because i had have so many for my heart ( I have a heart problem). For everyone it is different i guess:Hugs:
