Disappointed with OH he's refusing the Self-Hypnosis Classes!

Well it all started when I got though the post off my local University asking if we'd like to be part of some Self-Hypnosis Research and it's for free it's just the same as any normal paying Self-Hypnosis Course but we'd just need to fill a few questionnaires, before and after the labour and listen to the CD everyday and go to a class once a week. before and after the labour.

I showed OH the information and he said it looks pointless because once them contractions start i'd panic and want all the pain relief possible. Yes that might be the case but I believe it's free and we're not paying or 'wasting' £200 if we'd payed for a course etc and it gives me mainly a change to see other mums to be due round the same time.

When I mentioned it again the other day he just said no and walked off and I just cried. He said I'm like a spoilt child crying because I'm not getting my own way. It's not that I frustrated because he's got to consent to the research too and listen to the CD everyday with me and fill in the questionnaires..

I'm so frustrated with him. It's me going through the labour and it's one night out the week that we'll be going over to the local hospital.

I just want to give up and be like fuck you then, don't you ever moan whilst I'm in labour and I'm horrid to you.

I sent him a nasty message this morning whilst he's at work and said..

'sod off then, whos giving birth? Me! Whos the one who knows my body most? me. You know what don't even come to the birth seeming I'm feeling on my own though this whole 'preparing for the labour' you don't even want to come with me to see the labour ward because it's pointless and I'll see it all on the day!!! Well sorry I'd like to know as much as pos seeming I'm the one whos going though it all..

Thats a shame, especially since its free! If it doesn't work who cares, you didn't pay for it.

Some times men just don't see the bigger picture :nope:

I can see his point of view but theres nothing to loss which he things there is e.g the 'pointless' nights to the hospital for the classes etc.. I've left it around on the coffee table to see if he looks at it! Got till end of next week to send it back!

lol I hope he takes your hint before its too late!

what a complete spoilt brat!!!

sorry but if my OH wouldn't support me i'd tell him were to go.... he's rather sceptical about hynobirthing

but i explained it all to him.... explained that i don;t like the thought of an epi, would like as natural as possible so i can get home sooner to be with him and the dogs on our sofa with our baby watching crap xmas tele!!

my family have an allergy to petidine and i don't want to risk finding out if i do also (mum had it in labour with me, and ended up in caridac arrest)

My OH has looked it all up and said he may not believe in it but its what i want, so he'll support me and listen to it so we can write down cues as the CD suggests

it's your body and i believe ultimatly your choice, if he was the one pee'ing 10 times a night, struggling to get out of a sofa, breathless after a flight of stairs then he'd get a choice in it... but he's not

if he won't play ball hun PM me and i'll see if i can copy my CD for you and send it to you

That course sounds excellent, I'm so upset for you , how mean that he won't consent just for the sake of filling in a few questionnaires. If he won't play ball you can buy natal hypnosis CDs quite cheap and OH doesn't Have to listen with you. I used one, and while I did use pain relief I didn't have an epi, pushed for maybe 15mins, had no tears, lost hardly any blood and this was me awake for 94hrs in labour!

Yes you might panic and forget what you have learnt but the point of the relaxation and hypnosis is to prepare you BEFORE hand so that you don't feel a sense of panic! Plus surely they are doing the research because they want to know if it can work on skeptics, if only people who believe already take part then the results can be put down to the pre-existing attitudes of participants!

Can't you do it yourself, or take another birth partner?
My oh was very sceptical about Hypnobirthing. It's also very expensive where we live. I'd have liked to have done it, but as I'm determined to have him as my birth partner, decided to try an alternative myself! So I'm doing Natal Hypnotherapy instead - listening to CDs daily. He's read the booklet, knows what to do to help me (remind me to breath properly, key phrases to use etc) and I'm really happy with that.
I really want both of us in our comfort zone during labour. I'm pretty laid back though - possibly because I've used a lot of meditation/relaxation in the past for stress and anxiety. I'd rather we met halfway than argued about it.
Very excited about the big day now!
Good luck, whatever you decide on - but id recommend the CDs. (amazon, NCT both sell them).

I can't see his point at all... seems like he is being a bit rude... he should support you in anything you feel might help you for the birth... maybe he is just a little weirded out because it isn't "normal"... took my hubby awhile to get into the natural birth thing and this time we are home birthing...
