I was just looking for some information and advice please. I stated my maternity leave on 25/12/12. I received a phone call on 03/01/13 from my manager saying that the terms of my temporary contract were ending and when I returned to work after maternity leave I will be reverted back to my original contract. On 20/01/13 I attended a function with some work colleagues and discovered that two people had been promoted/been given permanent contracts exactly the same as one I had that had just ended. I was unaware of these two job opportunities arises and therefore was not given the chance of an interview for the same job I had been doing for the past two years. I feel as though, had I not been on maternity leave, I would have, at the very least been offered an interview, if not the job. I would just like to know where I stand with this and if I have been discriminated against due to being pregnant and on maternity leave.

Yes you have been discriminated against if they have not notified you of the opportunity.

I work for a large bank & every week they post a copy of the internal vacancies to me at home... It's huge! I've asked for them to stop as I like my job and don't really care about the opportunities across the country and abroad lol but they said that they have to send it as I do not have current access to the company intranet as I am off work and they have a legal obligation to let me know of all available opportunities.

So yes, if you weren't told due to being on mat leave then it is discrimination.

Speak to your hr dept or acas & they should give you some advice.

Good luck

Ohh, so are they meant to keep up your access to things like your works email address?? I ask as my work stopped mine as of last week...........which means I cant acesses any info on our works social club - which I pay £6 a month to be part of and now am not notified of any outings/events, and also cannot see the internal vacancies that are emailed out.

No they don't have to continue to give you access to your works e-mail or intranet but they do need to keep you informed of anything that affects your work and opportunities.

So you should ask for the information to be posted to you on a regular basis if you want it. Hope that makes sense.
It's very hard being off though as finding out what you haven't been told is a tricky problem in itself if you know what I mean.
