I was watching that delia smith christmas thing on tv last night and it made me think. Every year I just buy party packs from ASDA/sainsburys etc of sausage rolls n chicken etc.. but its soooo simple to make things like sausage rolls and other nibbles. Cheese straws, blah blah. The food on that programme last night looked soooooo yummy, I may actually consider this option.. Its so easy nowadays to get everything frozen/already made for us. Has the whole world turned lazy or is it just me? haha

I might buy delia's book now actually for some inspiration

i am afraid im lazy too, i just buy party packs!!! Its easier although i know probably a lot more expensive, but to be honest i just cannot be bothered to do it all myself. Its the time, mess it makes while your doing it and the washing up etc. i much rather open the packets, bin the packaging, put on paper plates and then chuck the rubbish away at the end. God i do sound lazy now dont I LOL !!!???

wish i was a nigella or delia in the kichen but never gonna happen!!!

Yeah I watched that last night too.I might make some of the stuff she done as well.Looks yummy :) xx

I buy everything too lol! Its my 21st birthday on sat and will be getting most things frozen!

Tbh I wouldn't want to spend xmas cooking and getting upset when things went wrong!

For christmas dinner I make everything from scratch but for party food we just buy premade

I buy all the savoury and make all (well most as we have to have pink wafers and party rings) of the cakes etc :D

I used to cook it all from scratch and beat myself up if I "cheated" at all but now I know better and make the stuff I can make or isn't too hard at attempting and buy in some other stuff.

Things that are really easy/simple to make and make a big difference in taste are.......

a cooked ham (google Nigella ham recipes)

Quiche (I know it can be a bugger to make but I have an all in one recipe if anyone wants it and it's a million times nicer than shop bought)

potato/pasta/rice salad

tzatsiki/yogurt dips and dressings

cupcakes/brownies (I have the best brownie recipe ever:winkwink:)

Please don't be shy to ask if you want any tried and tested recipes from me. I go on a food forum and it's great to share your favourite recipes that you KNOW work:thumbup:

This recipe is by "Hottie" my very dear Australian friend from the forum

Impossible Quiche. By Sally.

4 large eggs
1 and 1/2 cups milk
1 tablespoon softened butter
2/3 cup self raising flour
1 cup grated cheddar or whatever cheese you want

Variable........
1 grated onion (red or brown)
1/2 chopped Capsicum.
1 grated courgette
1 cup salmon, ham, chicken or bacon.

Play around with the last 4 ingreds, mine last night had no meat, but added grated carrot, chopped spring onions and a red onion. Other variations could include broccoli, asparagus, tomato, haddock (or other fish), more cheeses (4 cheese quiche), sliced cooked sausage etc....the list is endless

Beat together the eggs and milk, then put in all other ingreds.
Put into air tight container (lock and lock are best) and shake well, But only for a short while, say 30 secs.
Put into a well greased Quiche dish or sandwich tin, you can even do mini ones in muffin tins/cases, sprinkle with chives or cracked pepper, and bake in oven set at 180c for approx 25-35 mins (all ovens are different) mini ones would only need a short amount of cooking time... about 15-20mins.
Eat hot or cold with a nice crisp salad. Enjoy.

ps.....they rise up quite high while cooking and shrink back down upon cooling, so don't be alarmed like I was when I 1st made them:haha:

These Impossible quiches are so much nicer than normal quiches as they taste pastry like but don't actually have a proper pastry on the bottom (I'm not a huge pastry person) but rest assured these have gone down extremely well at parties and buffets by adults and kids alike.

Try not to get too worried about the lists of ingredients, they're only my suggestions....put in what YOU like.

You can get measuring cups from Asda and other supermarkets, they only cost aboout £1-£2 and are really useful and much easier than weighing and measuring:thumbup:. I have quite a few Womans Weekly cookbooks and mags and I find it so much simpler to use cup measures:happydance:

I will def be havin a go at this over the weekend :) thank you hun xxxx

I make the basics like Mince pies, sausage rolls, cheese straws, cupcakes for the kids but the rest i just buy in as there is only so much time i want to spend in the kitchen but the most important xmas party food for me is homecooked ham and pickles which i always cook on xmas eve. Oh and xmas dinner i always make from scratch even the stuffing and cranberry sauce.
