It might even be an old/outdated practice, I'm not too sure. My best friend is English and his nan just died of ovarian cancer. I'd like to send him and his parents a sympathy card, but if its unusual or not really done in the UK then perhaps I won't. Maybe some of you UK ladies know whether it would be appropriate to send one?

She just passed away on Halloween, and I'm currently in the US now - it may take a few weeks for the card to arrive if I do send one, would that be too late?

Thanks! x

Yes it is normal to send sympathy cards in the UK. Thoughts are always appreciated even if it does take a few weeks to arrive x

Yes, I would send one. It might even be nice that it will be a bit later because it will show you are still thinking of them xx

I'd never had a sympathy card whilst living in the UK but then I'd only ever lost my aunty so not immediate family. I lost my son mid pregnancy in 2009 just a few months after leaving Germany and got alot of sorry for your loss cards, maybe from the army and my german friends. I did find it so odd because I'd never had them before but also really meant alot to be. I'd send it hun xx

Yes we use them in the UK. Im sure the fact that you have them in your thoughts will mean a lot even if it does take a little while to arrive! x

Yeah we definitely use them - but they're not expected iykwim? I think it's a lovely gesture. x

Yes we send them. I think that its a lovely gesture too x

Yes we send them in the UK hun and i think your friend would really appreciate it x

They aren't expected but most people send them.

When my Mum passed away in 2009 my sister and I must have received 150 between us.

yes, my close friend died a month ago & I sent his family a sympathy card. it's not expected of you but it is a nice thing to do, shows support I guess. :flower:

Yes we do still send them. My mums neighbour passed away about a month ago and we sent her husband one.
