does anybody stop buying there kids in the run up to christmas so that christmas doesnt just seem like another normal day being spoilt?

because Lillys only 2 (3 in feb) she still doesnt understand the whole christmas thing so OH has suggested we dont buy her anything from now until christmas as she gets something every time we go out, he thinks if we carry on then on christmas she wont appreciate it x

i dont buy kids toys etc when we go out, they get either a magazine or sweets once a month, and yes we carry that on up til christmas.

my LO is a bit to young to understand, but if i see something i think he will like or that he wants i will buy it and 'give it to santa'

my children get something every time I go out, toy's, boook, sweets,
I know I really shouldn't do it but I can't stop myself :(

think I might do what you OH has said and stop buying them treats from now to christmas, maybe then they will be a little bit more surprised on christmas morning lol xx

I buy amelie something pretty much everytime we go out although she didnt want anything in tesco today. She doesnt 'ask' for much anyway so if she takes a shine to it and its under £10 or so i just buy her it.

I don't buy stuff for Ella everytime we go out. One reason is that I could never afford that!

recently i got Kailee a lot of toys that will last for awhile so im holding off till x-mas unless its somthing small. she doesnt understand it but it will save me money and let me give her more at x-mas lol

It gives me a perfect excuse not to give in to my kids..."Christmas is coming and if I get you anything Santa will think you have everything and will not come."

Doesn't stop them from asking though.

Honestly, when we lived closer to malls, etc. I bought Amanda and Jayden something every time we went out. Now that we are in a rural area and not close to malls, they don't get much bought for them anymore. Thank goodness because I think they were getting quite spoiled.

The girls dont get toys all the time anyway. They have two toy boxes full of toys and they rarely play with any of them

My LO is too young to understand but I just can't stop myself from buying her things hehe. She gets something nearly every time we go out I love seeing her face light up when i show her something and give it her to hold. I know I cant do it forever though as she will just become spoilt.

At the moment Em is too young to really know what is going on. She also shows interest in things in shops but can easily be sidetracked by a colourful sign or interesting picture!!!! I am finding that I am still picking up bits and pieces as we go just now as her development is coming on so quickly just now that I need to get things to add to our repertoire. However, once we get to next year I will be doing a cut back for Christmas- from early November so that when we get to December there are new things that she appreciates.

Yes i do stop a few weeks before christmas because like others i buy them something everytime we go out. But my 4 year old is in school now so thats saving me a fortune :haha: her birthday is 4th of january tho so she wouldnt get anything all year otherwise. So we try and use things like first day of nursery/school/summer holidays as an excuse to buy her something big. This year it was a trampoline and scooter.

Even with my 14 month old tho im trying to stop because im not even sure what to get her for christmas (i change my mind every day)so if she takes an interest in something i would rather buy it and put it away than give her it now.
