Do you think 37 weeks is too early for a c-section?

My Dr. wants to do a c-section at 37 weeks because my placenta is slowly detaching from my uterine wall and he doesn't want it to fully detach. I am 34 weeks tomorrow and part of me thinks its too soon and I can make it but part of me says listen to him and have it done so that I can avoid the complications after.. IF it happens. Im so confused.. advice please!

My placenta detatched and abrupted and had to have a section at 25 weeks, it wasnt a plesent experience and personally if i new it was coming at that gestation id take it without hesitation !

My second son was born at 35 weeks by c section and had no problems what so ever he came home with us 48 hours after section x

I wouldn't hesitate to go for a csection at 37 weeks with the chance of the placenta detaching. It's a danger to both you and baby. I am a very natural minded person and try to avoid medical interventions etc, but when it comes to this, I would listen to your dr. There comes a point when you just have to let the doctor do what he has been trained to do, he's looking out for your best interests. Hugs!!

I am booked for a section at 36 week's which is earlier than they usually do for an elective. But I have different risk factors I was initially quite taken aback they recommended doing it so early then figured they wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't necessary. Also the doctors will be weighing up risks to you and baby. Make informed decisions by getting as much information as possible but don't beat yourself up over it. At the end of the day 37 week's is considered full term anyway. Good luck

For that reason I would definitely be inclined to take the 37 week date!

My twins were born at 37 weeks via section with no issues. No nicu time, all fine. So if I had something like you have I'd have no issues at all going for section at 37 weeks. X

I was induced at 37 weeks with my last nothing compared to a c section I know. But I think it would be better for you to have it done if you are having problems and the doctors usually won't do them unless there are problems. I feel that you should listen to your doctor. 37 weeks is considered full term. But it's safer for you and baby to have it done with those problems that way you are safe and so it the baby. You will be fine I just honestly feel you should do this because it could cause more problems to wait. Just my personal opinion. If I had said no to an induction because of my problems which were different from yours but still serious my baby would either not be here or he would have mental heath problems. But the doctor is doing what he feels in your best interest and I think that you should not risk more complications which would stress you you more. Hope everything works out ok hon! :hugs:

For that reason I would do the c-section at 37 weeks, I'm trying to get my doctor to do mine at 40 weeks, but he doesn't want to risk it.

I would go with the 37 weeks. I had a placental abruption at 35+6weeks and went into labor. I was trying for a vbac, but ended up with an emergency c-section and beautiful healthy baby. Plus, you're considered fullterm anywhere between 36 and 40 weeks. Good luck!

37 is considered full term although under normal safe circumstances each passing week makes baby stronger. However given your risk factor I'd definitely take the doctors advice.

I am one who never argues with the doctor!! They know better than us...

I'm definately agreeing with your dr. In 37 weeks your baby is full term and ready to be born. These last weeks he/she just gains weight. But he can do it after birth too, considering your situation. If your placenta detaches, you'll bleed out in minutes. This is a serious reason and your lucky that your dr gives you 3 more weeks.

I had an EMCS at 37 weeks due to cholestasis....It was fine (I quite ejoyed it -I know thats a random thing to say but I did). LO weighed 2.900kg and was absolutely perfect. 37 weeks is full term so there's no complications generally if the baby is healthy.

Estimates are due dates, so having said that... 37 weeks may not really be 37 weeks. Ultrasounds, Fundal height are all inaccurate at really pin pointing a due date.

However, if your having issues with ur placenta, they can go bad quick. So it would be better to get the baby out than wait.

If you are worried, you could ask to be monitored at the hospital for 2 weeks (staying there) till ur reach 39 weeks. But personally, i'd just consent to the csection at 37.

Personally, I'd do it. The dangers involved to you both if the placenta comes away would outweigh the risks of delivery baby at 37 weeks. My LO was delivered at 36weeks by emcs and was fine albeit for a bit of jaundice that required no hospital treatment. Good luck.
