So today i actually made the trip to the DR's !! actually booked it and went!! for those of you that read and don't know .. i've been trying to make this step for almost 3 years!!! :dohh:

at one point i was going to leave because i was that scared but then my name pinged up on the screen for everyone to see (even though it was just a couple of older ladies) and so i had to get up and go in.

So i sat down with a Dr that i don't normally see .. well have never seen before (but it is Saturday after all and i'm lucky they were even open!!) and i was also there for my depression tablets.

She asked me how old i was and i told her i'm 21 and have been trying for 3 years and that i've joined slimming world to help loose weight because i know that some people cannot conceive when carrying extra pounds ... so far I've lost 4lbs!! yay !! :happydance:

but she wasn't interested in that. said because of my age that i shouldn't have problems and i'm healthy so don't worry and that if i wanted to discuss fertility that i should bring my partner along too.

I thought going in i'd get more info and questions on the subject and then told to come in another time for tests and then my partner would come in too?

WAS I WRONG FOR ASSUMING THIS?
or is this what all docs do?

No not at all. Do you have a gyn you are comfortable with? If so start there. If not, find an ob/gyn with a good rep. I am under the care of just my normal ob/gyn and any testing I do at a RE is sent back to them. I also have a friend who doesn't have a reg. Ob/gyn and in a similar situation and she went to my office and they did like 2 months of testing and she is about to start fertility meds. I'm sorry you had such a crummy experience- I hope it gets better.

That sounds awful, so sorry you had to go through that. I have heard may women complain about age discrimination when it comes to fertility problems. Often the same women who are visiting fertility specialists at 30 unable to conceive, wouldn't have been able to conceive at 21 either - they just didn't start trying until later. Maybe you were seeing the wrong type of doctor? I would recommend trying to get in with a fertility specialist or going to your gynecologist.

thankyou, im booked in to see a different doctor today so we shall see!!

So me & OH went to Dr's together today and success, we saw a male dr who asked loads of questions, took OH weight and Blood pressure and then told us he was going to refer us to the womens hospital (who will deal with OH too) and see a specialist!!

So happy we are finally moving into the right directions
Parenthood were comming to get you!! :happydance:

on the downside though it may take up to two months to hear anything from the specialists but i think if i concentrate on opk's and temping and doing the deed :') along side continuing to loose weight it should fly by!! :) :haha:

Is this the waiting time any of you have experienced or has it been instant?

I don't see a specialist since my ob does fertility. Just watch how quickly you loose weight since dropping too fast can halt ovulation. I'm so glad you got with a doctor who actually did his job.

Unless you are going private it is very common to have to wait. On the NHS I had to wait 7 weeks for a follow up consultation just for the results of a scan I had. Do not expect it to be quick. You will most likely be waiting a month or two for appointments depending on how busy they are. However if you end up requiring IVF you are too young to be eligible under NHS guidelines so you will have to wait until you are at least 23 for that anyway. They might try clomid etc first though depending on the exact nature of your infertility.

well i will be on the NHS i just think two months will be to long!! i'm far too excited to wait and worried that i will be one who slips 'through the net' so to speak

i wish i could speed it up, ive been waiting for a child for three years and im not exactly a patient person :haha:

i suppose though at least someone knows we are after help now

7 weeks is actually quite quick for the NHS. Fertility is kind of low down their priority list. Beware that will be the inital consultation. Depending on your areas policies it might take a bit longer before you get any treatment. My area want you to go through loads of tests before they will even consider clomid. From referal to being handed a prescription I was 11 months.

And yes it is common for GPs to want to see both partners before making a referal, they might not be so clear and come out and say it but I was refered first time when I turned up with DH but my friend was fobbed of for years with her GP until the 2 of them went together.

National health service in England

and the Dr said up to two months i really hope its less ... I'm kicking myself now for not doing it sooner because i could have had tests and things by now.

i don't understand why they drag things out?

Hay, you've done the hard bit. A few months is nothing esp when you are so young.
