Just wondering what your experiences are of the industry? How did you get into it? Career progression and qualifications etc?

Thank you

I work for a housing association

I have a degree in Criminology, although you don't necessarily need this to get into this area of work.

I started off as a casual relief worker (although I pretty much got any hours I wanted) and got a permanent job about 6 months after this. Feel free to PM me if you want to know about the company I work for or have any questions!

I work for over 30 housing associations providing out of hours cover

Thank you ladies, I thought there might be more replies - I just wanted to see what type of roles we were achieving with families.

I've just got a customer service job with a small HA and I'm hoping to progress through the roles into a much higher position. I've noticed that there are a lot of women at base level (customer service, housing officers etc) but not so much in the roles with more responsibility but I guess that might have something to do with having children. Hope to make it up there one day!

Hi

I have worked in this area for nearly 14 years, in my HA nearly ALL senior managers/Directors are Women:happydance:

I would ask for work shadowing for any area you are interested in.
I did a NVQ and the next stage would have been for me to go to LSE and to study the following - Housing, Neighbourhoods and Communities
I am sure that your work would support a qualification for it if you wanted to go for it.

Good Luck !

Thank you Crunchie - that's great to know about the women in senior positions!

I completed CIH Housing Practice Level 2 when I was pregnant and already have a degree in a non-related subject so I am hoping that my employers will see some potential and help me with a further qualification!

I start on Monday so it will be a little while before I will ask to shadow but that's a great idea and I will definitely be asking in the future.
