i've read that it's not a good idea to eat peanut butter during pregnancy but my doctor said it's fine as long as there is no history of allergies in the family. so i've been eating peanut butter toast. i also ate some sausage rolls at a birthday party which i would assume is probably another "no no" food. i REALLY want a big mac from mcdonalds but i'm not sure if you're allowed takeaway burgers and fries when pregnant.

does anyone else ever eat foods that would be considered "no no" foods?

I am totally off limits to peanut butter, ever time I open the cupboard door it shouts to catch my attention!!!! So hard to ignore! In the past I have had exzema, asthma and hayfever!

I miss deli foods, although there aren't many. Surmi, which is rice with or without mince meat flavoured and cooked and wrapped cabbage or vine leaves. Oh gorgeous. But as these have been sat out in the open for goodness knows how long, I keep well away. Also some of the meats I can't have. We eat a lot of salads and have to have feta!!! not anymore, as it is all in Bulgarian and on the label I can't see the word for pasturised, I can't have any.

I read somewhere that you can't eat bacon. Can you have bacon if it is packaged and cooked well????

WHAAAAAAAAT??? No Bacon, sausage rolls, Burgers??? why on earth not!?

I was told that peanuts are fine unless a family history of allergies. Ive had eggs slightly dippy as I got them from the farm over the road from my Mums and know they are fresh and a reliable source, Ive also had Brie that is english and pasturised,

Hi Ladies

I have cut down on eggs , but BACON it's my fav and heard nothing of the sort that you can't eat it??? Infact its about the only meat I can eat warm/hot at the moment as totally gone off roast beef and chicken. lol.

I dont like cheese so that ok for me... but I am sure there are many out there that have been fine just eating as normal.

Yep I have had a big mac too. Only the one so far but its not a no no, just fattening.

Enjoy what ever you can eat... certainly during the first 3 months ! lol

I had a macdonalds last week.... well actually...2

I eat dippy eggs.. coz they're lion stamped, 100% guaranteed salmonella free, and the chickens are vaccinated against salmonella ( midwife agreed with me).

The only thing I wouldn't risk having is anything known to carry lots of Vitamin A... or anything from those vans in the middle of town....

Otherwise, I'm not gonna panic about everything that passes my lips... just be sensible !!

:)

I don't think you have anything to worry about with bacon or Mac Donalds! I'm far worse - I still eat deli meats, eggs with runny yolks, bre and camambert, medium rare steaks.... loads of stuff I shouldn't! I just don't really think there is that much of a risk as long as the food isn't out of date. There are some things I won't have now like shellfish, sushi or pate. Really miss my sushi.

Really miss my sushi.

oooh, sushi, i miss it SO much too! i would give anything for some tuna sushi, smeared in wasabi paste and drowned in soya sauce *DROOL*

eeek, i didn't realise you shouldn't eat peanut butter if you have a history of allergies. i had pretty nasty excema as a kid, on my lips and chin. no more peanut butter for me :hissy:

well i had a Mcdonnals the other day i didnt have a big mac but i would say its ok to eat all those food, i wouldnt worry eat what you want i do

I think as long as your sensible and try to avoid things like Pate and raw eggs etc it's fine. Just think that many years ago our parents didn't know anything about this dodgy food situation!
I've had a couple of Maccys - to be honest I'm loving the excuse of being allowed to eat them!

I do avoid peanuts but have to be honest.

I find it really hard especially when out for a meal! Can be quite limiting xx xx

i LIVED ON PEANUT BUTTER AND BANANA MILKSHAKES WHEN i WAS EXPECTING MY DAUGHTER. lovely

You know something, I've eaten what I wanted during my pregnancies, and even had my cups of coffee too and my kids are very healthy. I know it's best to be careful but at the same time, one can be overly concerned about everything they eat.

i dont really think that it really has a massive affect personally i think if you ate whatever in moderation and didnt gauge on it then its okay. my nan and other older members of my family have said that they didnt have all of the dont eat this dont eat that and thier babies were fine they just recomended that i ensure everything is cooked and washed.
i dont like soft cheese anyway so its not really a problem.
as for mcdonalds and stuff i think its just best as a now and again thing just cos of the fat in it. dying for a quarter pounder with cheese thou now im thinking about it haha

No McDonald's? I've eaten that more than once throughout my pregnancy. I think it's like the others said you just have to do things in moderation.

I think the reason I am researching everything more about what you can eat and not eat, is because of my mc last year and as I will be 38 this year, I'm in the higher risk of mc. If I have to watch what I eat for a few months, then I will.

Definately peanuts are a no no if you have a family history of allergies, I do unfortunately. I must confess though, since living away from the UK I have had fewer attacks, in fact I haven't used my asthma spray in nearly 2 years!!!! I have a little exzema at the mo on my leg, but I think that's due to dryer air (heating) and wearing layers and layers of clothes!!

As you may see, I live in Bulgaria, I have looked for pasteurised on feta packaging but can't see it and as for Lion stamped eggs .... not out here! In fact, I only have the eggs hard boiled which is no fun at all. I just don't want to risk it. And enough about McDonalds please, I won't be going near ours (about 75kms away) for another few weeks, oooohhhhh the cravings!!!

I pretty much eat as i used to. I try not to get too caught up in government guidance on what not to eat. EG there is no evidence eating peanut causes any allergies. It's just a theory. I think worrying too much about what to eat and what not to eat gets me far too stressed to be good for me! They say not to eat runny eggs in case you get salmonella, but then if the risk was that high everyone would stop eating eggs. Who wants salmonella?

Just my thoughts. Saying that, i've deffinately cut down on the 'no no' foods as i feel guilty when eating them.

Eat what you like, in moderation!

xx

Im missing dippy eggs , i know there are some out there you can have but i daren't risk it !!

I still eat what I want, just in moderation. I do, however, stay away from runny egg yolk (which I love). I still eat deli meats as long as they are still good. I don't like fishy stuff unless it is deep fried so fish hasn't been an issue for me. I do find that if I drink a lot of caffeine my stomach starts hurting really bad  so I try not to do that. McDonalds is okay, just fattening, I don't see why you couldn't have it. Heck, I have eaten Mcdonalds so many times I probably gained like 7 pounds just by eating it. Everyone has their own opinions as to what you should and shouldn't eat. Just think back when your mom was pregnant with you and when your grandma was pregnant with your mom, I highly doubt they had food guidelines like we do now. I think you will be fine, just take things in moderation and if the doc specifically tells you not to eat something then listen to them, other than that, eat and enjoy.

i eat most things i used to tbh, just try not to eat too much of them. i have cut out alcohol altogether though
