does anyone know what the normal amount of milk almost 8 week old should be drinking?

My 7 week old (8 weeks on tuesday) seems to only get through 16-17ozs of milk in a day. She's really struggles to drink more than 2oz with each feed only very rarely will she drink 3-4ozs. I think she may have reflux so I'm taking her doctors tomorrow to see if they can help. Bless her colic now maybe reflux seems like we can't win :'(

A breastfed baby eats roughly 25oz of milk per day between months 1-6. Doesn't sound like she's getting enough, I'd inquire about this with the doctor.

She's bottle fed though so would that make a difference?

Is she gaining weight and does she seem happy and healthy? In which case I would imagine she is fine, just a small eater (I am no means a health professional though). My friend who has a baby 2 months older than mine said that when her daughter was around 6/7 weeks she was only drinking 2oz per feed....and she is absolutely fine!

Something like 16oz is what babies usually drink when weaning and dropping bottles so to me it sounds like she's not getting enough. Don't panic speak to your gp

I think Thomas was having 3-4oz every 3-4 hours at that point.

She can have up to 20 -30 mins of happy awake time but the rest she tends to crys and winges. We tried feeding her again changing, playing or simply trying to get her to sleep and nothing worked and the health visitor said she has colic.

She tightens herself up and struggles to eat after she's burped we've tried not burping her but its always after the 2oz mark she stops.

I think she's putting on weight ok she was 7lbs 6 born went down to 7lbs 2 at 7 days then went up to 8lbs 8 at 4 weeks and 2 weeks ago she was 9lbs 9 so I think she's doing well?
I never had this with my first baby girl she ate like there was no tomorrow lol

Try 2oz, a 20minute break and cuddle and then offer another 1oz.

Some babies are small eaters but it does sound like she has a bit of reflux. How is herv weight gain?

DD had moderate reflux and ate only 2oz at a time until 5months and had slow weight gain. DS has severe reflux and a swallowing disorder and really struggles too, a great feed for him is 4oz but mostly it's 1oz here and there x

My girl was doing really well with her feeds, was having 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours but now she's only having 2oz every 3-4 hours and seems really uncomfortable. She suffers with colic like your little one. I think she also may have reflux but my doctor just dismisses it. She's never lost weight but on two occasions she only gained 1oz a week.

Let us know what your doc says. Hope your little one picks up her feeds soon.

She should have 2 - 2.5oz per lb of body weight according to my Healh visitor
