Does anyone on here work in HR or for a recruitment agency?

I'm looking for a new job as I'm returning to work full time and my current workplace can't offer full time hours. However, I have a first written warning on my file for six months (I have around 3 months left to go on it). Is it best to ride it out for the remaining three months to apply for anything new or is it unlikely any prospective employer will ask?

It's hard to say really, but you could speak with your Manager and find out what your current employer's policy on references is. Some companies only state dates, some only positive and don't mention the negative etc. I would think it would be unlikely to cause you an issue.

Thank you hun - I'm going to go for it and still apply for new vacancies - fingers crossed!!! Xx

Technically references are not allowed to be negative, as many companies are scared of repercussions and so give the basics only ie dates etc. as Robbo said above. However, the most telling one is normally 'Would you recruit this member of staff again' so its always good to stay on good terms with your employer (ex).

Hi, its not quite right that they can't be negative, they need to be factual. I work in the nhs and we ask about current disciplinary sanctions but it would not necessarily preclude you from getting a job. We would discuss the circumstances and determine whether we were prepared to take on the 'risk'. It would also depend on the nature of the offense. Good luck with your applications. My advice would just be open about it. From an employer perspective there us nothing worse than finding out your new employee has been disingenuous and that in itself could invoke disciplinary proceedings xx

I work for an agency and as my_first said generally we don't Give negative references. Most references have a multiple choice answer so timekeeping, attitude etc 1-5 1 being poor 5 being excellent the only references ive had that go into detail are for the care sector. If you have a good relationship with your manager then I would to them and good luck! Xx
