I was reading online that it is possible for you to have your regular mid cycle ovulation, and then a second spontaneous ovulation during the same cycle. And that is how Frat Twins are conceived.
So hypothetically speaking.....
would it be possible to miss the first egg, catch the second spontaneous egg, and achieve pregnancy later in the cycle?
AND, if you did catch that second egg, what if implantation doesnt occur until during or towards the end of AF?
Because technically if you havent implanted yet, AF would still come because your body wouldnt yet know it was in fact pregnant. Is that even possible?? What do you think?

I know there was some Canadian study a while ago that claimed women could ovulate more than once in a cycle. However, the findings of that study are under some heavy scrutiny... I was a Biology major in college and from what I understand of hormones and the female reproductive tract, it's possible that your body gears up to ovulate multiple times, but it's impossible for you to truly ovulate more than once... at least in a fashion that would allow you to have a successful pregnancy.

Basically you have 2 hormones that induce ovulation, the most well known one being LH. When you ovulate, you have this lovely little piece that the eggs come from on the ovary called the "corpus luteum". It's job is to produce Progesterone. What does progesterone do? Amongst other things, it suppresses LH. LH is necessary for ovulation to occur. Progesterone suppresses it, so if an egg has been released, there is a corpus luteum and if there is a corpus luteum there is progesterone and if there is progesterone, LH is being suppressed, and if LH is being suppressed, you can't ovulate again. It is possible to release multiple eggs during a single ovulation, as is the case of fraternal twins. The eggs will always be released within 24 hours of each other, otherwise the corpus luteum from the first egg will have raised the progesterone level enough to suppress the second egg.

It may seem like you could ovulate twice if you just had a lower level of progesterone, however if you have low levels of progesterone, the pregnancy will not be viable. When progesterone levels drop as the corpus luteum deteriorates, menstruation occurs. If you chart your BBT, you'll also notice that your temps are basically a reflection of progesterone... progesterone will raise your BBT, which is why your temp rises after ovulation and drops right before your period.

The big deal with the Canadian study is that women actually can have multiple LH surges before ovulation. The level of LH may rise more than once, but not reach the threshold that induces ovulation.

There was a lady on the TV a while back who O and concieved however tests all came back BFN but no AF as usual anyway she O as usual the following month aswell and also concieved, she ended up with 2 babies developing a month apart and then had to have a C section to deliver both.... 1 term and 1 a month prem. At first doctors thought the one baby wasn't growing right. There is a name for this but I can't for the life of me remember it.

I also have a freind with 18 year old twins (boy and girl) all her scans showed they was depeloping 2 weeks differently so she was told she probably O twice in a cycle.

Have a read of the link. It is even possible to have twins with different fathers if you O twice and slept with different people although these things are rare :)
