has anyone else gone the natural route after a mmc?

what level of pain should i be in, how much clots will there be,,

i was told on 21st(thursday) at scan there was no growth no heartbeat etc and my baby had stopped developing at 6wk 2days, i started spotting that night then on sunday, it became heavy bleeding, and its very heavy now, when i go to the toilet it drips into the bowl, theres also lots of clots that im passing,

how much of this is normal??? how long will this go on for?

a big part of me is regretting doing this naturally as its heartbreaking everytime i visit the toilet, im crying atm from a mix of emotion and physical pain :(

HIya sweetie

I am so sorry for your loss. I too was told two weeks ago that my LO hadnt made it much passed 6 weeks. I have not had any heavy bleeding, but some clots and kinda of like a regular period for the past two weeks (has stopped now tho).

I'm not sure what to expect, and even though I really pressed the docs and the gynea nurses, no-one could tell me what to expect....its different for everyone etc etc.....

They did tell me that some ladies bleed heavily and pass lots of clots quickly, whilst thers have slower, lighter bleeding over a longer period of time. Some people have bad pains, some dont.

I know it sounds rotten, but I really hope mine has gone now so I can start to greve and move on.

Hope you are as ok as you can be hon...and I'm sure some of the other girls on here will be able to offer you more advice...

Stay strong

Laura xx

am sorry your going through this rght now. I have just come to the end of a natural miscarriage I have very little brown spotting now. I was told at an early scan on wed the day before you that there was no heartbeat i was in my 8th week, baby died approx 7+5 weeks acording to measurements. That night I got really bad cramps till about 4am passing clots the pain then went away and a got some sleep, then in the afternoon got cramps again for about 3 hours then passed the placenta+baby onto pad. So the worst was over in less than 2 days, then continued to have what was like a heavy period for 3 days.

It is a horrible thing to go through but you will get through it. Hope everythings going ok, and take plenty of rest. xx

Hi Missy,
I'm really sorry to hear your news and wanted to try to reassure you a little (easier said than done I know.)

I miscarried earlier this year. It was my first pregnancy. I had an early scan due to intermittent bleeding and baby was measuring 5w2 days, when we expected it to be at least 6w6 days going by LMP. They booked a further scan for 2 weeks on, but during that time heavy, constant bleeding started. I think I passed about 4/5 'substantial' clots with one being (TMI - sorry) about 2inches long by about an inch wide. I guess I was 'lucky' in that I only had one day of bad pain (valentines day :( ) but I would say the whole experience was very uncomfortable physically.

At the scan, they confirmed the miscarriage and said I had one more clot to pass, which I did within an hour of getting home. From there on the bleeding stopped. I had spotting on and off for about another week (had to wear pantyliner but not pad) and then returned to normal.

Period returned about 35 days after the spotting ended.

Emotionally, I was a complete wreak for a good couple of weeks. Crying all the time, wondering why life was so unfair etc.. But we turned the corner eventually.

If there is any support I can give (though I don't claim to be an expert by any means!) please do get in touch.

Missy.....i'm so sorry you are going through this :hugs:

briefly, my stories......apologies if tmi.....

2nd mc (11weeks) - after the first show of blood, one day of nothing, then 6 hours in very bad pain. Then clots with contractions......bled for 2 weeks, af 40 days later

3rd mc (8weeks) - - after the first show of blood, one day of nothing, then 4 hours of very bad pain, and clots with contractions. One day later, i went through it all again.....hence we discorvered it was twins...then blde for 2 weeks, and af 35 days later.....

i have said this time round that if i had to go through it again, i couldn't do it naturally again. Not because of the physical pain, but because of the emotional anguish that happens at the same time. I couldn't have a natural mc in hospital either....that would be too much.....

take care....:hugs:

Hope you are ok:hug: Have had 9 natural miscarriages, some were worse than others. Started with cramps, bleeding got heavier and so did cramps. Passed alot of clots and foetal tissue/sac. Once the 'contents ' had passed the cramping and blood loss slowed down to a heavy period.
Some of the losses were, physically, very painful, I won't lie to you. Lots of analgesia and baths.
On a positive note I do also have 4 wonderful children.
Take care and all the best for the future

just wanted to send a hug, nurofen, paracetamol and a hot water bottle helped me- if it gets to uncomfortable you can always ringdrs again for advice/help/stronger pain killers
lots of love, hope it finishes for you soon

hi hunni so sorry for your loss :hugs:

not sure what everyone has put but this is my experience of my natural misscarriage at 8 weeks. started spotting the saturday morning so went to a+e and was told i would have a scan the next day and if the bleeding got heavier or i was in pain to go back. 2 hours later i started cramping and heavily bleeding and so went back to be told i wasn't bleeding heavily enough to warrant a scan there and then and sent me home. managed to get to sleep but was woken around 6am doubled over in pain it got so bad that my partner had to ring an ambulance as i was literally screaming in pain it was agony. got to the hospital and had to sit and wait a couple of hours before my scan. during that time i went to toilet and passed what i thought was my baby (which it turned out it was). had my scan to be told baby had definately gone and was sent home with some painklliers.

after that the pain wasnt anywhere near as bad though the bleeding was pretty heavy with small clots for a few days. think the bleeding stopped after about 7 days.

to me it sounds like your bleeding is normal and hopefully it wont go on for too much longer. x

Hi hunny,
Im so sorry for your loss, I also had a mmc at around 6 weeks, same thing - no growth etc but I decided to have the operation as I was told you can sometimes end up waiting a while. Just thought it ws the best choice for me personally. It sounds like you are starting the process. Im not sure how much blood but I suppose at 6 weesk there isnt too much to come out??? Just so you know, I was told by the nurse if I went downt he natural miscarriage route I would be in quite a bit of pain and may have to be rushed into hopsital (one of the reasons i chose the op) but I suppose everyone is different.
I hope now that you are ok sweetie and just remember - everything happens for a reason, no matter how destressing it is, there is a reason. Im sure you will soon have your beloved baby but try to be strong hun. Sending lots of love xxxx

i want to thnk ech n every one of your for writing your experiences xxxxxx it must have been hard for you,

i think im ovr the worst as last nite was soo horribly painfull with a lot of clots and today has been much lighter and no noticable clots,.. but only time will tell
