Hi ladies, anyone have large babies at their 32-33 week scans? I'm wondering if his weight is normal or not. 5.5lbs seems like a lot for 33 weeks. His head, abdomen, and legs were measuring at 34weeks6days - so almost 2 weeks ahead.

Good news was that my placenta moved up on its own and baby's head is in position for birth.

Just really nervous about the baby being born very big. If any of you ladies had big babies at your scan, how much did they weigh at birth?

Thanks in advance.

I was never given weights during most of my ultrasounds with my DS, only that he was measuring ahead. I never had one at 32 weeks. I had one finally ultrasound at about 39 weeks to see just how big he was(I hadn't had one since I was about 23w) That finally ultrasound showed that he was 11+lbs. Turns out he wasn't :) He was born at 40w2d at 8lb 9oz. The scans can be 2lbs over or under sometimes. I wouldn't worry too much.

My US at 34+3 said head measure 36+3 and body measures 35+3 and estimated weight is 5lbs 15oz. I don't have GD either... My Dr said its all normal. the weight was still only in 75% for my gestation.

Ultrasounds are not 100% accurate either so baby could always be bigger or smaller.

Ultrasounds are notoriously bad for overestimating baby's size. I had one at 37 weeks last time and they said my baby was 8 lbs 2 oz and a week later he was born at 6 lbs 12 oz. I freaked out for nothing!

7lb 2oz at 34+6!! Although my last was a 10lber so ob said that is what she would expect for me.

That sounds right for me personally. My babies grow big. 5.5 lbs at 33weeks would be 8lbs at 38weeks (growing the average .5 lb per week) and 9lbs at 40 weeks. My boys were 8lbs born at 37 weeks and 9lbs born at 38 weeks. This little girl is already big per docs but we will hopefully see an estimate of her weight at next weeks 34 week appt.
edit: oh, and I don't have gd

I'm sure most of you will have heard what I'm going to post but I wanted to say that I haven't had a growth scan at that gestation, however I had one a few days before ds was born estimated him to be 8-8.5lb. He was 10lb3oz, no GD, perfect vaginal delivery, no complications, tears or stitches. So even if baby was bigger than average it doesn't mean that you can't birth them.
xx

Thanks! Also, moms who have big babies how long were they in 0-3 mos clothing for?

my son was measuring around that size at 34 weeks, and was born at 39 weeks at 9lbs.

I haven't had an ultrasound since I was 18 weeks. According to appointment last week my doctor said I'm measuring as if I'm 36 weeks and at that time I just turned 33 weeks.

So I have an ultrasound to give an estimate of how big is my lil guy. I'm really curious cus I'm HUGE lol.

I did not have GD with either pregnancy and I just somehow manage to grow big babies.
My son was 4 pounds or so at 28 weeks. They did another growth scan at 36 weeks and he measured at 9+ pounds with a projected birth weight of 11-0. He came out at 40 weeks weighing 10-11. He was a vaginal birth. 3 pushes and no tears/cuts/stitches. Beautiful perfect delivery :)
My daughter weighed in at 5 pounds at 32 weeks and 8-3 at 36 weeks with a projected birthweight of 10-3. I have a week to go so we'll see how right they are :)
My son never wore newborn clothes and went straight to 3 months. I think he was in them for a month or two and then went on to 3-6.

Good luck!

I posted earlier, both mine were vaginal deliveries and only tore with ds#1 (the smaller of the two)
I agree with a previous post that said just cause baby is big doesn't mean you can't deliver. (however my first was spontaneous labor at 37 weeks & ds2 was induced @38 weeks due to size and other factors) I plan on natural with #3 (DD) as long as she gets here before Dec 30!
as far as clothes... Although my boys were big, they stayed spot on for clothing til about 5 years! They only wore newborn for maybe a week then straight to 0-3 as they straighten out and began to stretch (they were 20 and 21inches long)

straight into 0-3 til 8 weeks then 3-6. He was always ahead in sizes til 2-3 which he stayed in til he was nearly 3, now he's in anything 3-4/4/4-5 depending what it is and where it's from but he can only wear slim fitting.
xx

Thanks for all the info. I kinda went nuts with shopping, better slow down now. Glad I didn't buy too many NB outfits! lol. Mostly 0-3 but need to get 3-6 sleepers now. Ah, this is fun :)

At my 32w4d growth scan babys weight was 5lb 8oz at my 38w4d growth scan his weight was 8lb 7oz I was concerned he is going to be a big baby but consultant, doctors and midwife reassured me everything is fine and he's at a good weight! I also don't have GD and everything is fine, wouldn't worry as I'm not x
