Don't orgasm to conceive a girl

I was having a discussion the other day with my antenatal group from my first son about all the stuff you can find on the internet about gender selection. This lead to a very heated debate about whether it's possible to choose your own gender without IVF. The Dr Shettles method was mentioned which, amongst other things, suggests that a woman should avoid orgasm if they wanted to conceive a girl his theory being the female orgams kills female sperm (trust a man to come up with that one!!!).

Just wondered if anyone had tried the Shettles method, and without getting too personal, had conceived a girl and had an orgasm.

As great at the internet is I sometimes wish it didn't have so much information available!!!

I didn't with the girls, I did with the boys! I know that because I struggle with that side of things (froms ome stuff that happened when I was young) and sometimes erm..help myself along. I didn't try for the girls, they were a lovely surprise, but with my boys I did....and I was convinced having an orgasm helped you conceive. So I know when I didnt manage with Dh I would make sure I did immediately afterward, if you get my drift...and they were obviously both boys lol!

All embarrassed now, but in my case it would be right!

Dr Shettles advises against orgasms if your trying to concieve a girl because the orgasm is actually an aid to conception, as you orgasm your muscle contractions 'pull' sperm up and further into you, as the boy sperms are faster they are likely to reach the egg first if you orgasm. He also ties this with an acidic 'habitat' within your vagina as it will kill weaker boy sperm but not bother girl sperm too much! Dr shettles methods are meant to be highly successful when used as simultaneously but just using one of the theories won't increase your chances by much. (so he says)

well having 2 boys i have to admit i did try this and the theorys about certain positions , however i think the main point of it is the timing ie when you dtd in your cycle and we didnt do that we just bd everyday in my fertile time.
so i prob contradicted the no orgasm and position theory anyway ... will find out in 6 weeks if it worked. but i think it will be another boy anyway lol !

We tried the shuttles method this time, so we could try for a girl! i have two boys from previous marriage, and he has 3 boys, (twin boys) plus 1 more boy, so we really want a girl for us. I didn't O when we did the deed. It will be worth the sacrifce if its a girl! lol I'm sure DH will make up for that by the time the baby is here lol. We also tried to time it 3 or 4 days before O. and like 2 or 3 days after. But i won't know what worked until about 8 months from now. We are waiting till the baby is born to find out.

Snooping from third tri - wasn't true in my case. I did, and I'm having a girl.

I did orgasm everytime we did the deed the month we concieved(after he went first , tmi) and I am indeed having a girl so it goes to say.. It's all just chance.

The other story with the orgasm is that it is supposed to make conditions in the cervix and vagina more alkaline which is also supposed to increase the chance of conceiving a boy.

There is a lady who showed the Shettle's study however and her argument was that the ONLY day in which more girls were conceived than boys was at o+12 (ie having sex slightly later than ovulating) which is not what the Shettle's method says at all. She tried it after having 5 boys and had a girl so she thinks that is the method to follow now. The Shettle's study was actually pretty small and I would say inconclusive.

According to the Shettle's method I should be having a boy this time round and according to the diet one where it depends on acidic vs basic conditions I should be having a girl - I guess one of them will be right lol.

I had a girl...and she was the result of a mega tear jerking orgasm - I remember it so well because I'd never felt anything like it until that night, I had had orgasms obv, but this one was so so strong!! Sorry for TMI lol!

Thank you all so much for your replies and being so honest about the big O - nikki-lou25 I am very jealous!!!

I will see if this has worked for me at the end of August - I did have an O but that was before my hubby so will be interesting to see if the alkanie theory is right if so I guess I'm due a boy!

2 girls here and both were conceived after mummy had an enjoyable evening so I think that's a load of rubbish to be honest
