does anyone put dr browns bottles in the microwave?

im tiring of waiting for the bottle warmer and have been tempted to use the microwave but at £5 a bottle i am loathe to melt one!

anyone do this? do you take the tops off?

thanks :)

I use the microwave for my Dr B bottles, I take the tops off and then leave them to stand for a minute before giving them a good swirl and making sure they are well mixed. NEver had any problems with them, and that's in a 1000w microwave.

All I've heard is that microwave heating can be dangerous as it can cause hot spots in the milk. I came close to killing my MIL because she heated my daughter's formula in the microwave (despite DH saying not to) when we nipped to the shops... =/

Anyway, no help, just my 2 cents.

yes you can, I have done it and you can get an official Dr Browns microwave steam sterliser as well.
What I will say though - microwaving does nuke the goodness in the milk so don't make a habit of it!
I always used to do it when LO woke at night rather than let her get too upset but other than that boiling water in a jug all the way...
We have a 1000w, 45 seconds does the job for us and a good stir.

I've microwaved dr browns bottles with no problems - teat, lid and all. You need to loosen the lid a lot before heating, or the milk will leak everywhere. Then tighten and give it a good shake after. I found turning it upside down whilst tightening allowed me to shake without leaks.

thanks girls- ive not tried it yet as im worried about the hot spot business. i might give it a go when he is not crying for a feed if that makes sense!

my hv said so long as you give it one heck of a shake your fine hun. i use dr browns and just take evrything off just putting the actual bottle in there. they only say not to to cover there backs against those who dont shake it

They put the microwave caution on there to prevent lawsuits if someone decides to heat it up too hot, not mix it or check it before giving it to LO and causing LO to get a burn.

What I typically do is warm the water (in the bottle) for about 15 seconds.. just to get the chill out and the mix in the formula, (check it of course) and then feed Nolan. That way none of the nutrients are removed (if they even are, I am not sure).

I use Dr Browns bottles and at the mo LO is on 7oz, so i put the bottle in the microwave for 30secs swish and wait a short while then put back in for another 30 secs and do another swish. Of course if the milk hasn't been in the fridge too long then of course you heat it for less time.

I also microwave mine but I've started to notice some splinter like marks at the bottom of the bottle, I'm goin to have to buy new ones now, they mustn't be microwave proof.
