It'll be 6 weeks on weds since I had my csection - I am desperate to drive!! I phoned my insurance (admiral) today who said they don't have a standard timeframe but that if the doc says it's ok to drive then it's ok. Thing is, my docs aren't doing my 6 week check until a week on Friday!!

So would you drive or not drive before you've seen the doc??

I had a 3 week check up and a 6 week check up. I had to drive myself to my 3 week check up and I had a manual car at the moment. I did fine! If I were you I would drive around for 5 or 10 minutes before the day of your appointment to make sure you feel comfortable driving!

I was the same as you but waited until after my 6 week check. Your insurer will try their best to use any excuse to wriggle out of paying out on a claim. They are a business after all. If they Know you've Hafez a section(which they do now cause you called) they will likely try to blame that for any accident.

I wouldn't risk it and wouldn't be up for the fight arguing with them if I did have an accident.

I felt fine to drive before my six week check and my insurance company said the same as yours so I phoned and spoke to my doctor and got his ok to drive. The problem would be if you drove without getting the ok from the doctor if that's what the insurance company says you need, you might well invalidate your insurance.

I drove after 2 1/2 weeks I phoned my insurance and they said if your midwife is happy then they were. I asked my midwife and she said I was ok to drive.

If they have specifically said your doctor and you drive and something was to happen and you were not given the ok by your gp- could it invalidate your insurance? Insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying imo!

I've never heard of insurance not covering a driver because of a c-section? (I live in Canada though)... Here the guideline is 2 weeks to not drive but I drove like 10 days after... I wasn't in pain and I didn't take any further pain medication when I left the hospital.
I'm not really sure why you wouldn't be allowed to drive for almost two months after your c-section?

I drove after a week and a half. Had no choice as my OH was being a dick and wouldn't go shopping for us. I phoned my insurance and they said there was nothing restricting me so I just went ahead and did it. I did ask my midwife and she said if I feel okay to do an emergency stop then it's fine.

I felt ok about a week after and my mw gave the okay then but I seem to be in a very small minority that recovered really well from my emcs.

if you don't have the drs approval to drive you are effectively uninsured.

This means if you have a crash that is your fault you are financially responsible. You might be able to afford to replace/repair your car, and perhaps the other car. What if you or someone else is injured and needs expensive medical care or other long-term care becuase you injure them? Can you fund this yourself too?

its not fair on other drivers and road users to drive uninsured. Either get yourself an earlier appt with the drs or get a taxi.

I drove a week after mine too. I was fortunate to see a doctor. Does your surgery do telephone consultations rather than you getting an appointment and going down?

My Dr didn't even check me over just asked if I felt able to drive and said 'ok, drive!'

Thanks, I'll give them a call tomorrow! Hopefully they'll be able to do something since they are making me wait till he's 7.5 weeks for his 6 week appointment!!!

I did. The way I saw it, the doctor was happy to leave me until 8 weeks to do a check. Therefore, they were happy for me to resume life as normal.

I started driving at 2 weeks pp. I felt happy that I could manage an emergency stop/all the necessary manouveurs and it was fine. But then I had an easy recovery from my section.

I just called my insurance provider since I'm having another CS and they said there is no lapse in coverage but suggested not to drive while on pain meds. Then we got into a conversation about why I was asking, they said they'd never heard of that but if a provider does discontinue coverage, you shouldn't have to pay for it and should ask for only theft and fire coverage which is considerably less.

Has ur doctor told u can't drive? if they didn't drive when ur ready, I was back driving a week after, but that was me... and my doctor just told me when i was ready and comfrotable I could.

I had to drive after 2 weeks and never thought twice about it. I was just careful and tried not to do sudden stops.
