I've got quite sensitive skin, so when winter comes around it gets very dry and itchy. It's driving me mad! My entire body is completely dryed out and itchy beyond belief. I've tried loading myself up with lotion, but it doesn't seem to work. Do you ladies have any recommendations? Any nice bath soaks that may soften my skin, or good lotions? Helpppp.

I dont really have any personal recomendations but my OH suffers with quite severe Exema (how ever you spell it) and his doctor has given him some stuff that you put a few cap fulls in the bath, Perhaps your GP may be able to offer something similar. X

Aveeno has an oatmeal soak that works really well. They also have a really great lotion that really does last 24 hours. I have really dry skin as well and it's the only lotion that works for me. On the bottle it says 24 hours on it.

Ive suffered from really bad excema all my life (and I still dont know how to spell it!) but its got worse since I got pregnant, and like you, it was usually worse in the winter. I can't use anything in the bath.. in fact I cant even have baths that often, I usually stick to showers. I used to use betnovate but its got steroids in so Im off to the doctors in about 20 minutes to find out what I can actually use.

Ill let you know when I get back!

I highly recommend cocoa butter. Great for stretch marks too (I literally bathe myself in it as a prophylactic measure! :shower:)

I have had really dry skin too, all over my back and shoulders, face, hands, nipples even everything! I have found that the cocoa butter works really well too. It helps to do an exfoliating scrub in the shower and then when you get out just dowse yourself in lotion, it will feel much better:) Also, Gold Bond lotion is something that all my friends swear by.

i found this amazing body butter at loblaws, not sure if you have it up north.
it is called: opulent cocoa body butter.
or if you cannot get that, try nivea body milk. perfect for very dry skin and very nice smelling.

Add a few capfuls of castor oil to your lotion! It will thicken it and allow it to moisturise your skin better/longer.

You can also try using Jojoba oil on your skin too.

I love dream cream from Lush. Its wonderful. And the oatmeal baths are helpful as well.

Hey hon

Cocoa butter is the way to go, I picked some up this weekend because it was finally getting down to the -30s here and it dries out my skin too and its just AWESOME. I'd give that a try

I unfortuantely suffer from severe excema and it has gotten horribly worse ever since I got pregnant. I can't use much on it, because many of the lotions provided for me by my dermatologist had steriods in them. So they told me to start using Eucerin Hand and Body Cream and/or Dove. These two things have been my best friends lately. They are a bit expensive, but they work wonders. My skin has felt so smooth lately and I'm ecstatic that I have good skin again. The doctor also warned me against wearing tight clothing around my growing stomach in the winter time if dry skin is a problem with me (which it is). I recommend that to you. Wear things that are loose fitting, because the more they rub on your skin and the tighter clothes get, the more they rub and cause irritation on your skin.

Sorry this is so long, I just have had many problems with this! HA! Also, try not to take real hot showers or baths, that really dries your skin out horribly and causes your skin to flake. Well, I think that's about it! It's winter, so there's bound to be dry skin somewhere. :) Hope this helps!

My BEST recommendation is to put baby oil in your bath or apply it after a shower before drying off........I used to live in Bristol here where the water is very hard and I used to itch and flake like no ones business, but once I started doing that it helped no end! Good luck hun! x

I have crazy dry skin too, especially in the winter time, I get itchy all over. I'm allergic to cocoa butter and jojoba oils (lucky me) and the only thing that doesn't bother my skin is plain ol' vaseline. After I get out of the shower and dry off, but when I'm still warm and damp I rub a thin layer of vaseline all over myself and it's absorbed by the time I get to the bedroom and get dressed. I stay moisturized all day and I'm not greasy at all. If your skin is REALLY sensitive that might help you too.

Thanks for all of the amazing advice ladies, you help so much.
I think I have a lot of shopping to do tonight to find out which of these works for me, it's nice to have such a wide variety to work with.
Thanks again! My skin is crying out for help

My doctor recommended me with this oatmeal cream because he can't prescribe me steroid cream anymore. I used it last night and the itchiness seems to have gone but Im desperate for the redness to go for an xmas party on Friday!
