Scott is just over 3 weeks old and he bf seems to be going wel apart from he is perm atttached too me! Hecomfort sucks alot and he really only falls alseep on the boob tbh!!! Its getting me down as I don feel i ever have a break from him, im findin it hard to find the time to eat!! he also hates being put down and refuses sleep in m basket! so hes sleeping in the bed with me and oh is spare room!

wil a dummy help? or is it too early?

I have given both mine a dummy and bf both successfully. I did it because they were comfort sucking it took a while for them to get use to them but when they did it really helped me, I took it off my first LO at 7 months cause it served it's purpose and did that in couple of days with no probs either. You'll find differing opinions on this but I can tell you that it worked for me hun. x

My LO had one. I think at 3 weeks you should be ok though many will say you need to wait longer. My LO stopped using hers at 6 months :)

A dummy might help, so it might be worth trying. LO had a dummy while he was bottlefed, but since learning how to breastfeed he has rejected it. Some babies prefer Mummy as a dummy! Have you thought about getting a sling so you can get things done while feeding him?

my lillun took a dummy once at that age, i was worried he'd refuse the boob so i took it off him when he was asleep. it served its purpose to settle him without using me as a dummy.
since then he has refused to take one.

My baby has one, although she much prefers to use me as a dummy, I tend to hold it in for her until she starts sucking away on it and she pushes it out when she falls asleep like she does with boobie. She isn't at all keen on it but it does help when I need a little break.

I found it to be an absolute godsend, think he was about 3 weeks when i gave him one.

He knows he isn't getting any food out of it so its purely for comfort, took a few attempts for him to accept it.

Have tried and tried to get Noah to take a dummy as he comfort sucks so much its unbelieveable. He is nursed before he goes to sleep, but he will suck for 5 mins then come off and then I can put him down awake and he will go off to sleep. But wont sleep unless he has his suck lol. He just screams if I try the dummy, he pushs it out of his mouth and screams if you try and hold it in at all. Oh well maybe he will when he's older. But good luck and hope it works and gives you a break. xxx

sam used to be the same at first he wouldnt have a dummy but then we tried the mams ones and he took to those straight away at about 4 weeks

My DD will only take the MAM ones too, them or cheapo Asda ones which I don't like to give ger in public because I'm a dummy snob lol!

Joshua comfort sucks to...when he is tired he will suck for a couple of minutes and then settle. Tiring sometimes, but he won't accept a dummy either. Just spits it out - will keep trying see if he will accept it at some point!

good luck hun hope it helps

Thanks for the replys girls. havent tried it yet but did buy two yeterday!

When they are tiny they often like to comfort suck and often grow out of it. We've never used a dummy with Jack. He uses boob for comfort a bit now but I don't mind, if it does the job then it's a natural use for breasts. I always nurse him to sleep, making use of the hormones that get released that cause sleepiness!

I wasn't planning on giving him one, but day 1 at the hospital, I gave in!! LOL

He breast feeds, AND uses his soother. If he didn't, I would be in a mental asylum already!

itried last night and he hates it, went nuts! kept spitting it out and screaming, ive given up on it! boobs it is then!
