dummy help

over the past few days i've been tryin2get katie to take a dummy, my mum said it was probs a good idea cos she was constantly feeding and we thougt it was more for comfort. anyway, at first she took to it really well and it was fab, but the next morning she just wouldnt take it.

now she takes it on and off, sometimes she'll suck for ages, sometimes she wont take it at all and others she sucks for about 5 mins and spits it out.

i've tried rubbing it on my nipple, but whaat else can i do??

could it be cos i'm BFing? she does take a bottle when i express, so she is used to teats

Why do you want her to hav it in more?? I think she might just not want it at that particular time. They dont necessarily want to suck ALL the time. I think it's better when they're not in their mouth constantly - that way they're not quite as addicted to it!!

Sounds like maybe she is just sucking it when she is in need of some comfort and spitting it out when she has had enough? I would just let her carry on as she is! x

its just sometimes i can tell she's not hungry, but just wants to suck, like right now she's got her fist in her mouth giving it a good munch, but i've just fed her. it's just getting a bit much putting her on the boob every time she wants a bit of a suck, when its just that light tickly kinda suck that you can tell isnt a hungry suck!

Hebe sucks her fist too sometimes. If you know its a comfort suck then dont put her on the boob and let her suck her fist or the dummy - what ever makes her happy!! You could also try differnt styles of dummy. Hebe seems to like the Avent ones and my friends baby liked the cherry ones.

i think i might try a different style, i've got some cherry ones and some mam ones, had been giving her the mam ones cos they're more nipple like, but might try the cherry. i'd rather she had a dummy than her fist, cos even tho i know its a bugger of a habit to break, i'd rather she had something orthodontic. i know so many people with shit teeth cos of sucking fingers lol!

Both me and my sister sucked our fingers which is why I prefer Hebe to have a dummy too but I do let her suck her fist and hands if she wants to - I just stop her if she finds her thumb or fingers.

I bought some TT CTN dummies thinking they'd be more nipple like and she didnt like them at all! Give the cherrys a go but I wouldnt worry too much about her having a little suck on her fists - that wont affect her teeth.

Sometimes Jasmine doesnt want her dummy, and she is bottle fed. She likes it sometimes, and sometimes not. And she sucks her thumb, fingers and fist sometimes.

Yeah she sucks her hands and fingers after a bottle, but its only usually if she wants more. I try to give her a dummy but if she keeps spitting it out I give her more formula. Have you tried putting her back on to see if she wants more? She might not be finished but isn't hungry enough to start screaming.

Ollie's he same, he's very hit and miss with his dummy. Sometimes he has it and other times he'll just continuely spit it out. Faith on the other hand loved her dummy from day 1! x
