Early Scan?

Hi ladies,

I have recently found out I am pregnant for the second time this year. My first pregnancy I had some bleeding and had several scans, one at 6 weeks one at 8 weeks and one at 9 weeks which determined that there was a sack and a yolk but sadly the baby didn't develop. I ended up having a D&C at 9+2. This time I am trying to be positive but it's really hard. I was just wondering if anyone knows if I'll get an early scan automatically or if I'm going to have to really push for this? I need to know if there is something in there, I can't get through Christmas not knowing.

didnt wanna read and run, im in ireland and people used to not get an automatic early scan and my doc told me i prob wouldnt get one. but i got a letter from the hosp and was called in for one when i was 7w2d i also had a private one myself at 8w6d which would be after i lost my last bub. all good thank god
i know it prob works differenently where u r xx

oh and i meant to say last time i was the same as u, bleeding at 7w4d and 3 weeks of scans , was a ges. sack and yolk sac but baby didnt grow, had d and e at 10.5.
i was afraid it be same again, but i saw hb on both scans

Congrats on your BFP and your littke bean! i remember chatting with you not long after i'd lost my first. That's great that they gave you an early scan, especially when they don't normally. Really hope I get one, think I'll book a private one a couple of weeks before Christmas too just in case. It's a shame when we have to pay for something that I feel you should get anyway.

i know i think the same hon, it should be a right, they dont think about mental anguish at all in the whole thing hoep u get one hon but booking private one just in case is prob good idea fx for happy and healthy preg for u xxxxxxxxxx

Hey Hunnie, I had a blighted ovum which was only discovered at 12weeks and 4days... I fell pregnant straight after, but was bleeding right from the word go, had lots of scans, but in the end lost that baby.

This pregnancy everything was good, but mimicked a lot like the blighted ovum, so midwife sent me for a early reassurance scan at 7weeks... And my god it was the most nerve wrecking/happiest scan I've ever had! If midwife doesn't mention a early scan (mine did), then deffo mention you want one! I'm sure she will send you for one x

Thanks ladies. So sorry for your losses.

The issue I'll have is that they do booking in appointments at 11 weeks in my area so will have to push for an early appointment. Or I could go to my GP and ask them for a referral maybe. I just feel so nervous and know while I'll be an emotional wreck when it comes to scan day it'll settle my nerves.

is there such a thing as a early pregnancy unit at your local hospital ? x

Yes there is, that's where I went for my scans but I needed a letter from my GP before they would see me last time. They weren't all that nice when I went there last time, made me feel like I was wasting their time because I was there so early (at 6 weeks) so I'm not really looking forward to being back up there.

Omg. what assholes! I would say that to the GP...one that you know will be quite sympathetic...I hope you get what your looking for...and I would complain about anyone thats making you feel like that too x x

It was a really horrible ordeal last time but I was so scared because if all the bleeding I had that I just took them being like that, I wish I'd said something now. The next time I went, when I found out I'd lost the baby, they were much better, but that first time was awful.

I think I'll wait until I'm 7 or 8 weeks and go to the GP and see what they can do. And if it's a no then I'll have to get one privately. I just need to know if it has started right this time. It took me 2 months to get my period after the op and I just feel like time is ticking away.

I was given an early scan with my 1st rainbow, I think mostly because I found out I was pregnant so soon after my loss, I had no AF in between.

I had a diff mw with my 2nd rainbow and she suggested an early scan b4 I even asked. I was scanned at 5wks but too early for hb so scanned again 2 wks later.

I think unless u get a great mw it may b difficult to get an early scan x

I had two miscarriages one at 11+6 and one at 6+2 and they said that an early scan was not needed! I thought it was disgraceful as they say that it is perfectly normal.. You have too really push for a scan! Good Luck

Toriiabje thanks for your message, I can't believe the things they say to you, it's like you've just cut your finger or something, not lost a baby. I will be pushing for an early scan, I don't need anything fancy, I don't need to be there for long or have pictures to take home, I just want to know if there is something in there, that's all.

Yeah i know just reassurance make sure sort of thing thats what i said.. I just want a quick scan to make sure everything is ok after my first miscarriage i needed D&C and straight after they said right thats it just sent me home it was horriable, then after my second it wad an early miscarriage so D&C wasnt needed but the staff was terrible; they said to me 'it wasnt even a baby anyway' and 'never mind it couldnt feel anything' i thought it was disgraceful how they treat you.. Its not like a small cut its your baby even if it is early on its still a baby growing! I was told my everyone too complain however i didnt want the hassle after losing my baby..
