In april 2012/13 the personal tax allowence goes up to £8000...

if your a couple is this figure per person in the couple or is this together?

so for example is Mr A and Mrs b both worked and living in the same house, and;

Mr A earned 10k

his taxable income would be 10k-8k = 2k

And

Mrs B earned 12k

her taxable income would be 12k -8k = 4k

Or does it join them together?
sooo

Mr A and Mrs B joint income is 10k+12k = 22k - 8k = taxable income of 14k?

Thanks!

What is taxable income? My OH earns just over £8000 a year but he pays tax? Is that wrong? xx

Well from what I know (which is only a small amount so i cant promise butttt) the threshold changes in April to £8000 at the moment its like £7500.

But he could be paying tax due to his tax code? such as PAYE and then he needs to claim it back at the end of the tax year.
