So a little info on my situation, I came off BC in December, and for 3 months have had no AF/ovulation, and am waiting for something to happen. I have PCOS, but before BC had regular-ish periods.
I am currently taking Metformin 750mg, Vitex 2000mg and Pregnacare Conception (Folic Acid, B12, Zinc). I am around 6lbs overweight, although I am within the 'healthy' BMI range, at 24.81 (Just!). I exercise once/twice per week.
I have been looking into more natural ways to help my fertility. I do not know whether I suffer from insulin resistance, but apparently it is very common in PCOS. I was given the link to a great website, which had lots of information on what they called the 'fertility diet'.
I thought I would post the major points from this diet, as I thought I was eating 'healthily', but in fact I may be negatively influencing my fertility through the food I am eating whilst trying to be healthy!
So here goes:
THINGS TO AVOID![nope :nope: :nope:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/nope.gif)
Cows Milk (It has added hormones) - instead try almond milk
Non-organic fruit and veg (can contain pesticides)
Deep water fish ie. Tuna (potential for mercury) or farmed fish (Fed antibiotics or contain toxic food dyes)
Corn Fed Meat (contain added hormones/antibiotics)
Barn Kept/corn Fed Chicken (same reason as above)
Soy - in any form! It mimics Oestrogen and disrupts cycle
THINGS WHICH ARE GOOD![Thumb up  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/good.gif)
Full fat milk (fat helps with hormone production)
Leafy Dark Veg (ie spinach, kale) (contains Vit E)
Organic Fruit & Veg
Cold Water Fish (ie Wild Salmon not farmed, reason above)
Grass Fed/Organic Meats
Free Range Chicken
Whole, natural grains
Raw nuts and seeds
THINGS TO DO!![Coffee :coffee: :coffee:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/coffee.gif)
Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in fl oz of water each day - preferably filtered or clean, as tap water can contain pesticides in run off from fields, and bottled water can contain chemicals leached out of the plastic which mimic Oestrogen (I never knew that!!)
Eat Fibre with every meal

It seems the best way to help PCOS is to reduce the sugar intake, and then the problem of increased insulin which affects reproductive hormones.
Some tips:
Avoid fat free foods (they are full of sugar)
Eat more protein (whole) and fibre (this balances insulin)
Eat little and often
Eat Low GI foods (Look up the GI diet)
Eat less carbs, and choose whole carbs (brown rice, brown bread, quinoa, whole spelt pasta & bread)
Avoid white processed carbs
I hope this helps! If you have anything to add, please do!! I'm so excited and hope this really helps me. There is so much to take in, but I want to learn as much as I can!
