EC and early potty training moms, when did you buy your baby a potty?

My 7 month old is newly mobile and I have read that babies start to understand language around this time. I figured this might be an ideal time to get a potty. When did you start using an actual potty? What potty did you go with? What would you recommend?

What's the rush? I'm happy letting my baby be a baby :flower:

How is introducing a potty in opposition to letting a baby be a baby? I don't avoid solid food because I want to "let my baby be a baby." Likewise I don't avoid potties because I want to "let my baby be a baby." Babies can be introduced to lots of things including potties and still be babies.

I'll admit I don't know how you're going to enforce the potty; I just feel in my mind it's a lot of pressure on both you and bub to perform.

The solids aren't a good analogy as solids are introduced for health as well as developmental reasons, potty training at such a young age is definitely not health related.

I suppose my post wasn't really needed as you asked for early potty trainers, which I am not. Good luck with your methods :flower:

EC isn't about enforcement or pressure. If someone is enforcing or using pressure, they are NOT using EC.

I don't do EC but I did get a potty at 9 months and she has used it on and off, she understands what its for ect. She is still very select if she want to use it. I think having a potty around and introducing it young makes it a less scary thing for when they become toddlers.

Not many people like EC on here but there have been a couple of threads about it in the past I hope someone comes along soon to give you some ideas x

I started EC with my son at 6 months a few days after he started solids. I thought that as the act of having a poo (along with the texture and consistency of the poo itself) changed due to the introduction of food, it would be a good time for him to learn that defecating in a nappy was not the only option. So far it's what can only be called a resounding success. We started with just sitting him on the potty and playing between nappy changes and haphazardly caught pee and poo every so often. Then after 2 weeks it just seemed to click and in the last 2 weeks he has only pood in the nappy twice. Once when I didn't recognise that he was signalling to me that he wanted to use the potty and once when I wasn't with him. He pees quite a bit in the potty too and he now only uses 3 or 4 nappies every 24 hours and I'm often changing quite dry nappies, just because it's been on him too long.

As for the idea that I'm not letting my baby be a baby, to be quite frank I don't know what being a baby has to do with months/years of unnecessary defecting on himself have to do with each other. I let him be a baby by breastfeeding him exclusively for 6mo, by having breastmilk be his main source of nutrition for as long as he wants it to be as he adjusts to solids and then a compliment to his food for as long as he wants it and by sleeping with him until he is old enough to be excited at the prospect of having his own bedroom. But I would no more keep him in nappies beyond his ability to use a potty than I would have taped up his mouth last Saturday night when he started babbling baba, dada, gaga just because research funded by Proctor and Gamble concluded that babies should be kept in nappies until well into toddlerhood.

I got him this potty chair:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Easy...ed-/140920607484?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160

I've been doing EC since a few days after birth. There have been times where it just clicked and things went super smooth and there have been times where we might as well not be doing it at all! It hasn't been super smooth for a while, but I feel like we're getting a hang of night time EC which is weird because for the longest time, she had no potty pees at night. Last night she peed 3 times. The first two were in the potty, and the second one could have been, but I was waiting to see if she'd give a signal other than waking up and coming over to me. She didn't and then she peed. I used the top-hat potty when she was very young and now I use it as a travel potty. At home I have a large pot I use. My husband prefers to use the sink, but that doesn't work too well when she has to poop...

Anyway, I want something she can sit on to work toward independence and to make pottying her easier. I also wonder if always having a potty readily available might help with EC in terms of giving her another way to signal... if she has to go, maybe she'll crawl to it or look at it? Seems like a good idea to me.

My mum tells me that I started doing this at around 8 months. First for poos then pees after a couple of months, which is to be expected as humans are physically capable of bowel control before bladder control.

I think it depends on the babys needs, some are happy to start early and some later.
