Hi everyone. I really don't know if I'm looking for some hope or maybe just some consoling, but here's my life right now. I am 4 wks 2 days along in my 3rd pregnancy. I have a 14 yr old daughter and last year I had an ectopic. The doctors thought I was miscarrying and sent me home, and 3 weeks later my tube ruptured and had to be removed. This time around, I was thrilled to discover I was pregnant but soon that was replaced by worry. I have had none of the symptoms I had last year (bleeding, pain) but wanted to stay on top of it all the same. I had my first appointment yesterday and everything checked out normal, the pelvic exam, the blood work etc. Still, I wanted to make absolutely sure, so my ob scheduled an ultrasound for today. The US showed an oblong sac in my uterus but the tech immediately said she didn't think it was a gestational sac because it wasn't round. Then she scanned my right ovary and saw another sac. She said she thought it could be either a ruptured cyst or an ectopic, but with my history, she was leaning more toward ectopic. The doctor seemed to agree. They drew some blood for hcg testing and ordered me to have more done 2 days from now. They are already talking about having a "game plan" and the nurse that checked me out asked me if they had discussed giving me medicine to "stop its growth". I didn't even know they had diagnosed me yet! I am so upset and trying not to hold on to false hope that it could be a cyst. Has anybody else gone thru anything at all similar to this?

Oh huni, I'm so sorry you're going through this!. I wouldn't panic too much at this point - the tech/drs are probably just being cautious.

At 4 weeks, there is very little to see on the U/S, it's very likely that what they saw in the uterus was a very small gestational sac and the cyst on your ovary is probably the corpus luteum (yellow body). This is completely normal and actually a very good sign as the corpus luteum develops following the release of the egg from the ovary and supports the early pregnancy through the release of progesterone.

I'll keep everything crossed for you that this is the case and that baby is snuggling down in the uterus and getting comfy for a long haul 36 weeks :hugs:

thanks chatty! that makes me feel a bit better. i asked the tech if it could be a corpus luteum and she didn't seem to think so. also, i've been googling like crazy (dangerous, i know...) and i still can't seem to find anything conclusive about oblong gestational sacs being abnormal. the doc says it could be a pseudosac but i am still keeping hope. maybe having hope is not the best thing, although i know that sounds terrible. better to be pleasantly surprised than completely let down and devastated. i guess i'll know more tomorrow when i get my second quant done.

hi everyone, wanted to update. the doctor called me this past sunday with my updated quants, and at 4 weeks 4 days I was at 2700. Two days prior, I was at 1300. Sooo, I am more than doubling every 48 hours. I took that as a good sign, and so did my doctor, so I went ahead and went on my planned family vacation. Now just a little while ago, the same nurse who got me so upset at discharge called me to tell me that, in her personal opinion, my pregnancy is ectopic, and she wants me to come in asap tomorrow after getting home from vacation for another u/s. Okay, so I was allowing myself to enjoy my vacation before worrying about this again, but now thanks to her personal opinion, that's done for. Are LPNs even allowed to offer their own personal opinions in the form of a diagnosis? And if the clinic is so sure this is ectopic, why was the competent doctor so positive over my hcg levels? I did some research, and my hcg levels are at the very high end of normal for my gestational age... have any of you had an ectopic in which your levels more than doubled over two days AND were higher than average for a normal pregnancy? Also, have any of you had a "pseudosac" with your ectopic? I find out tomorrow, of course, but this nurse has me terrified and worried all over again. I am so very upset with her, whether she is right or not. Thanks for listening.

:hugs: I am so sorry you are going through this.:hugs:
I have my fxd that everything will turn out just fine tomorrow.

thank you! thinks went sooo much better than expected! the u/s showed TWO gestational sacs with yolk sacs in my uterus! they now think the vascular mass in my tube was part of my corpus luteum. in your face, downer nurse!! twins, HA!

What a fantastic ending to the story! I can't believe the nurse buted in like that. Totally out of order. Bet she feels stupid now. :haha:

So so very happy for you. :yipee:

What an amazing end to your story. I'm currently awaiting my second lot of bloods- they've told me im probably having an ectopic but unable to see anything on scan yet. In terrified. Been looking for a glimmer of hope and your story has given me it xx

I know this is an older post, but I'm currently going through this EXACT situation, I had a bout of pain and was sent for an ultra sound (no bleeding) they found a gestational sac and a cyst on my right ovary. They told me Im probably having an etopic which makes NO sense to me! especially considering the pain was on the opposite side of where my apparent ectopic is lol!! They keep telling me to "hang tight" when I call for info about when my OBGYN appointment is...so frustrating and umprofessional I mean tell soeone, hey you might be loosing your baby, getting surgery or loosing a tube....but "hang tight" UGH! Anyways reading your pos made me feel better and hope for hope!!

Why an ultrasound so early? I don't think many women get any gestational sac until five weeks. I wouldn't do anything yet.

Oops sorry, I just noticed how old this post is.... Happy things turned out well.
