My baby has excema on his face and he scratches it so much it bleeds :( it's so horrible to see .

Dr prescribed hydrocortisone for 3 days and gave aveeno cream to moisturise .

He hydrocortisone helped and brought it down but now it's up again ( few days later ) and he's scratch himself so much .

I just put more hydrocortisone on to relieve him but I'm concerned about this as you don't usually use on face and especially not long term as will damage skin.

I'm not very experienced with this - does anyone have any advice ?

I'm in uk

Thank you xxx

DS is the same except I've refused to use the hydrocortisone as I've used it so much on my face when younger my skin is really damaged. It also stops working so well after a while.

How many times a day are you using the aveeno? Is LO teething/drooling a lot? That makes DS eczema much worse. Maybe use the hydrocortisone for a few days to clear it because if it's bleeding you will want to clear it and relieve him as fast as possible, then make sure you use the aveeno at least every hour for a few days to make sure it stays moisturised. We have found lush dream cream even better than the aveeno and use that 10-12 times a day basically whenever we change his nappy or feed him or bath him we put that in his cheeks. It gets really bad when he's teething and his face is constantly wet though so we dry him well and use Vaseline as a barrier and reapply several times a day putting on moisturiser waiting a few minutes then putting a layer of Vaseline on.
DS just got another two teeth so it has flared a bit in last week but before this he had been clear since xmas and not itching or anything. Lush gave us a sample of dream cream to try if you wanted to try something without paying a lot. Hope this helps.

Ah thank you so much for your reply! Great help thank you- I will look into that cream .

I am perhaps not applying the aveeno as frequently as I should do I'll put it in more .

My husband had the same problem with hydrocortisone and has skin damaged around his eyes so I am very cautious about it !

He is teething yes so that may make it worse.

I find it so stressful - anything that makes him uncomfortable :(

Thanks for your advice though ! Xx

At DS last well baby check his nurse (who has eczema herself) gave me some tips that I've been using. She said if it's itching to try putting oats in a washcloth and tying it. Put it in the bath with baby and dab on itchy skin. She said it relieves itching. She also recommended cerave lotion (which comes in a baby formula). I also have been using aveno eczema baby lotion which works well on his face. Have to apply at least 2-3 times a day when his skin starts to get a bit dry, if I leave it too long it gets worse and starts to itch.

I use coconut oil on ds. It's the only thing that has impacted it. I also use it on diaper rashes and they clear up within 24 hours.

Have you tried vanicream? Only thing that helps my daughters eczema. Hers was bad. Hydrocortisone cream did nothing nor did the eczema flare cream we tried. Or her regular lotion (Shea moisture) or coconut oil.

I would use coconut oil (organic). My daughter has eczema behind her knees and 2 applications of coconut oil has nearly got rid if it.
I use coconut oil as a moisturiser on my son.
